This is how anti tank launchers can actually only use 1 round to strip leg armor on behemoth chargers. As well as other good ways for dealing with them. It took a little bit of testing to learn how to deal with this enemy a lot easier. Charger weakness is crazy once you figure it out. #helldivers2

If I'm not mistaken, isn't the quasar a Plasma weapon and not a Laser? Thus has an energy projectile? At least I could have sworn I've seen a projectile come from it rather than a beam.

@@taemien9219 Sickle is a laser weapon and doesn't fire beams. Both laser and plasma weapons are classified in the "energy weapons" class. The quasar cannon is definitely a laser weapon within this game's lore and mechanics: first, the look and design is very similar to the other laser weapons; second, the shot has the same color as the lasers; third, its cooling time is affected by heat in the same way as the other laser weapons do (except it doesn't overheat as it fires a single max charged shot).

Well the damaging components of the rocket are the projectile and the explosion. The rocket has drop cus it looses speed as it Flys, and the explosion does less damage further from the epicenter just like a real explosion would. Obviously the explosion isn't dropping off though if it's hitting the dang thing.

@@ShotGunner5609 Except that a rocket doesn't loose speed as it flies, it gains speed until it reaches it's maximum, then plateaus until it runs out of fuel, and then rapidly looses speed and crashes because it's not capable of generating much lift and flies almost entirely thanks to thrust. Secondly, AT rockets and missiles deal negligible damage from the impact, they use a shaped charge to direct and concentrate explosive force forwards. The shaped charge will always have the same damage potential no matter the range or velocity of the projectile.

​@ShotGunner5609 the recoiless and AT rocket both use HEAT warheads which are not reliant on speed of the war head to penetrate and deal damage. In the (projectile) is an explosive and copper cone, when the (projectile) contacts the target the explosion forms the copper in to a extremely high velocity jet that can punch through a lot of armour. And that is why it isn't speed based.

Honestly, the Flamethrower damage vs Behemoths is so high it feels bugged. They die in ~4 seconds of roasting one of the forelegs, pretty much dying just as fast as a regular Charger. No idea why/how it kills them so fast, when Behemoths definitely have more hp than regular Chargers. Somehow Bile Spewers feel like they longer to kill with flamethrowers relative to Chargers/Behemoths.

@@user-mr6hc9hy2t it's the thing with the legs, that players found after Flamethrower buff. I don't remember exact stuff, but it's the damage of the gun itself, not the damage over time of the flame. Legs always work like a clocwork for me.

@@Tetragramix Wrong, it shreds hordes, including bile spewers, at a long range with infinite ammo. I wouldn't have gotten a 77 killstreak with the arc thrower alone on a bile spewer mission if it was trash.

I don't mind behemoths requiring extra shots to kill since it gives variety to the game and it strengthens the idea that you should work as a team. My problem with the behemoths however is that there's so many of them, every encounter has at least 5 chargers spawning and for some odd reason the regular chargers have become rarer than the behemoths (like 1 in every 5 chargers). Reduce the charger spawn rates and make behemoths a rare spawn.

The game does have "enemy modifiers", it's just that they aren't displayed before the mission. Some worlds you get bile spewers, others you get nursery. Some you get loads of hunters (which you can recognise via the pouncers being present), and others you get loads of hive guard.

Yeah, it sounds like a 1 damage buff could fix this. They might still be looking at a way to add less than 1 damage buff in order to adjust the range of a oneshot working. That could be tricky depending on the types of variables used, which might be why they haven’t fixed it yet. I think Eravin mentions the actual numbers and variables in his video if anyone wants to see under the hood.

Explosive weapons shouldn't have drop off damage, so much for "realism", explosives do the same thing regardless the distance you shoot them as long as you hit it... never understood why this is a thing for helldivers...

anti tanks are mainly ballistic penetration, the explosive damage is much smaller and secondary

​@@elkpants1280 In game. Majority explosive weapons, mostly rockets such as all automaton rockets, and our EAT, Recoiless rifle, and Quasar Cannon. Majority physical damage and then with minimal explosive damage, which is the reason those three weapons almost never get more than one kill per shot, and only when you directly hit an enemy. I've landed a shot right beside a scavenger and not killed it before.

I knew about the damage fall-off and walking thingy because I used Verdict vs bots since Polar Patriots released. I just thought that the slight glancing was back as some other old problems returned and I believed that only bullets have damage fall-off right out of the barrel. Started seeing the walking forward stuff on the subreddit before watching your podcast today and put one and one together. Thank y'all for clearing that up. Drove me nuts while I was away from my PC today xD Now they just have to fix the reload of my beloved Recoilless.

Quasar cannon isn't a laser weapon though. It's some sort of other thing like plasma or a shock pulse because you can actually see the shot travel. The distances in the game are so short that any lightspeed shot would be far less than one game tick to travel to the edge of the map. Roughly one three-hundred-thousandth of a second from emission to hit.

Yeah like you said the easiest fix to the damage drop off is that they simply add 1 damage to the weapons, no need to change the descriptions or anything since the 1 damage is lost when you fire it anyway. If someone wants to be sweaty enough to "abuse" the move forward speed to gain 1 or maybe even 2 extra damage then by all means let people do that. Ideal would be if they could change the code so the damage drop off only starts after 50m or w/e based on what weapon it is ofc, shotguns should have shorter range before it kicks in while the marksman rifles and similar should have longer than 50m but if thats a whole bunch of work to get done then just buffing them with +1 damage is good enough.

I think the easiest fix is to actually drop the charger armor by 1 so that way it wont mess with any of the other balances(if any) that that 1 armor extra damage may have on every other enemy units.

I can understand that ballistic and energy weapons have drop-off, the higher energy a beam has the more diffusion it has, but chemical warheads like EAT and RR should always hit for full damage, since they use explosives to penetrate armour.

Real rockets do, but the damage in this game is split between the projectile velocity and the explosion. So if you loose some speed you loose some damage.

Quick note: auto cannons are slightly worse against bugs due to a change to bile titans. Simply put. Shooting out the bile sack doesn't do as much damage to them, so the old tactic of rail canon//500kg// orbital precision + auto cannon to the bile sack is no longer a guaranteed 2 step kill.

Imo rockets should do more damage the further away you are because they should be speeding up right? Bullets make sense to have falloff.

I’ve just had a game where we consistently had 5 to 10 chargers active at all engagements, half of which were super chargers, they’ve reduced the spawns to the point theres more chargers. X) To make things worse, I was running the Spear to kill titans while another guy was running the flamethrower so I had to sit back and assist him with killing cuz no way I’m killing 20 chargers with 4 missiles 😆

Yeah, I’m not a big fan of how many chargers there are. They’ve always been the biggest nuisance as someone who uses the Arc Thrower, but now they’re just too much to deal with sometimes. Back to waiting for more updates for me.

Is this why it's easier to one shot bile titans with Spear across the map than up close? Because the missile is traveling faster over time therefore dealing more damage?

umm im pretty sure spear has fall off damage, also spear has like 1000 damage, bile titan heads are 750, it just needs to hit the head. bile titan heads are weird and if its a smidge off it wont kill it. It's also usually due to attack animations and such, so when its far away its not in attack animations not messing with your damage

They need to make the drop off damage start at a specific range.. Like after 45m for shotguns, 60m for ARs, 80m for mgs and snipers, and 100m for rockets.

You mean falloff damage starts applying AS SOON AS THE SHOT LEAVES THE CHAMBER instead of from the effective range onwards, even for LASER weapons? And you can punch extra damage onto the projectile moving at hundreds of m/s by just WALKING FORWARD? They find a new way to disappoint me with their logic everyday. This is the rEaLiSm that drives their design

You can’t expect a carbon copy of real life in a video game. Game logic will always be a factor for a good game. That being said, the falloff damage is really annoying.

@@kokorochacarero8003 that’s a fair criticism. Just hang in there, I know this game has a lot of potential, and it’s the one of the few games to scratch the horde shooter itch for me. I’ve heard something about an AH member live-streaming himself playing the game, and people can ask him to use certain weapons they feel are unbalanced or shitty in their current state. It’s relieving to see an AH guy see the problems people are talking about live.

Dude, seeing how the flamethrower has always been my favorite support weapon (on the bugs), I’m scared that now that it’s probably the best bug support weapon that it’ll get accidentally bugged and nerfed through some tweaking around with it 💀.

Problem is they spawn 4-6 every bug tunnel and after you killed them all anew bug tunnel spawn wasting a lot of your time especially if near objectives

Just buff all damage by 1 behind the screens. Still say 125 damage on the front end but on the back end just have it at 126.

@@calmhorizons no, the thing that causes issues like this is exactly what is explained in the video. On the code you’d likely input the intended damage output (125) and then have a separate piece of code that adds 1, or .1, or however much is needed to counter balance falloff, with a note stating that it’s for the purposes of falloff damage. That way the intended and actual damage output are the same, and the number the devs enter for intended damage is also the same. Alternatively you add a couple frames before damage falloff is active at all.

And you got igits out here saying WE’RE wrong for thinking this is a problem that should have been fixed long ago if the balance team actually played their damn game. -_- New direction with recent update and Pile’s urgency to improve optics and fun likely will get this addressed though; was 100% with you on the fast and dirty +1 global damage idea just to triage the problem. Gives them plenty of time to troubleshoot a more thorough design correction later.

Wow! Moving forward while shooting the anti tank weapons?! This is proof that the game is broken in so many areas. Smh. We now have to learn weird fighting techniques to succeed in a game that the developers pride themselves as a realistic game. The only thing real is the egos at Arrowhead.
