Bro did u mention the bolts on the wheel that the starter connects to...the little 10m or 12m bolts that hold the engine & trans together against that wheel (where u have to manually turn it to gain access to each bolt...like 7 or 8 I think)?? Or did yours not have that
@Wrenchlife6044 жыл бұрын
I forgot to mention it. There will be a few flexplate to torque converter bolts. That u have to accsess by manually turning the crank pulley

I have a tube from my camping air mattress. The trans fluid dip stick resovior is very deep in the engine bay. I put the tube with a built in funnel, into where the dip-stick is, slowly pour the solution, and she now shifts like a dream!! I have been working on Skyler (our MDX) from the time I was 13! Mostly engine reconditioning. I did not know how a transmission worked back then. My parents got the automatic transmission replaced in 2016 for $6,000!!!! We got it done for free. We sold the vehicle to the mechanic with a broken transmission for $3,500, they replaced the entire suspension system and transmission with a brand new one, and this year we had bought it back for $4,000!!!! WITH $8,500 WORTH OF WORK DONE!!!! She drives like how we literally drove her off the showroom in 2004, when I was in Pre-K!!! Now with 205,000 miles , and me graduated from H.S a few months back, she still serves me and my friends every day!!

Great video! - Don't need to do this but I always enjoy looking at the process. Ugh - NEVER tow anything with these...these Honda/Acura transaxles are not strong enough to tow stuff...I think a lot of people make that mistake and fry these transmissions.

Thanks for the vid. Now I'm not sure if I'm stoked that I can do this at home, or if I'm depressed that I now have no excuse not to. Time for contemplation on my life choices up to now.

What did you end up doing? I swear it’s the same with me this is a really important decision I need to make for my family and I . regardless whatever happens I’m sure it’ll end up all right. do you think It’s worth replacing the transmission in 2021? 104K miles other stuff is wrong with the car but I am motivated to just do it myself

Thanks so much for making this video. I'm about to swap out the transmission on my 06 MDX.. I'm debating whether to drop it from the bottom or just pull it with the engine from the top.. which way is easier?
@Wrenchlife6042 жыл бұрын
if your doing it at home. id pull it with the engine out the top. with a hoist id drop it out the bottom. good luck!

Ya. If i where to do it again. Id probably just lift the engine and transmission out together. From the top using a regular engine hoist

Once you replaced the transmission, how much life did the car have left? How many miles did you drive?
@Wrenchlife6046 жыл бұрын
Dunno. The vehicle has over 300,000 km on it. It should last for a while tho

I'm picking up an 05 tonight with a trans that leaks and won't shift into 3rd. Where is the leak most likely and cause for trans not shifting? Does the trans have a limp mode that needs to be reset?
@Wrenchlife6044 жыл бұрын
Leaks are most likley at the axle seals. The reason for the trans not shifting most likley is a bad trans. Haha im not a fan of mdx's. Id never own one
