I already know that I'll be coming back to this video occasionally. I'm an online film student with Full Sail University and am about to start writing the script for my next narrative short film project, which will be based on a poem by a friend and fellow poet. I wish that I'd seen this a year ago when I tried adapting one of my own poems into a short film script...my target for the assignment was a 3-5 page script. I got so deep into the writing that I ended up with a 20+ page script that I had to strip down...not encouraging. But this video, and knowing that you have done what I am now trying to do, has motivated me to keep trying & keep pushing.

Great! Keep at it. Practice makes perfect. Any other writing topics you'd like me to cover in future videos, esp. for film students?

@@Storylosopher well, I’m new to your channel so I’m not entirely familiar with what you’ve covered but…writing dialogue? Even if it’s a simple “do’s & don’ts” of writing dialogue. As a poet, I taught myself to write in a character’s voice…but that’s not necessarily the same thing as effective dialogue. Or, perhaps talking about writing a script that your cast/crew understands the intent (as opposed writing a script that only the writer/director gets) I didn’t think that was a thing until a classmate & I swapped scripts. Our conclusion was that mine was way too cluttered and his was too bare bones.

Can you have a different narrator (female voice or male ) for each poem ? Or should you stay with one?

Sure, why not? :)

Can you put yourself inside of the scene while narrating on certain poems?

Depends on what you mean. I discussed this around 2:27, but it really depends on your poem and the way you're telling the story.
