Do you have a pattern for this dress? What kind of jersey fabric is this? Thank you Sam
@MarinaBrumpton5 жыл бұрын
Hi, its a knit jacquard. I love this type of knit. Its easy to work with and no binding necessary. This is my existing Vivienne pattern. Hopefully I can get out a jersey pattern this summer.

Could we get the same result with just buying the pattern in a size down when using jersey knits vs cutting down the pattern?
@MarinaBrumpton8 жыл бұрын
+Cynthia Crum The problem when you just size down is that the body length is not the same anymore and the size of the armhole. I would never recommend it especially since you would have to go 2 sizes down, as the reduction is 8 cm in total. That is an awful lot and the sizing would be all off. I know people do that with patterns but it just isn't as good. And since you have all the sizes why not work with the one appropriate to the age?

+Marina Brumpton (Frocks and Frolics) That makes perfect sense I wasn't even thinking about armhole etc. makes me nervous to mess with the patterns like this (cutting them down) but you do make it look pretty easy in the video so I will give it a try. My Jersey isn't heavy though so I will wait for you other videos for lighter jerseys. thx again, always so helpful. :)

Don't be nervous, its just maths really. If it fits in woven it will fit after in jersey too.

Love your videos Marina, I think I’ve pretty much watched them all. Truly excellent. You are indeed very talented. Quick question...I have several meters of stretch velvet and I want to make a “princess costume dress” for my 10 and 14 year old. Do I employ this same method for converting the bodice (I’m using woven fabric for a circle skirt)? Do you think it’ll work? I’m going to be using your Vivienne pattern. Thanks in advance, Bev xxx

Bev McMullen hi, if you are using stretch velvet for the bodice you would need a gathered skirt to stretch on so it's not too tight. Otherwise you will need a zip. Combining stretch with woven in the waist area is difficult. I would stick to the velvet throughout. That will make it so much easier.

could you please teach how to cut the paper pattern?
@MarinaBrumpton8 жыл бұрын
+radha mani There are plenty of people already doing that which are really good actually. It's also something which grows out of lots of experience sewing and professional training. I will show some things but if you want to know how to draft a bodice check these guys out: kzbin.info/door/LSP3s7t6TWksd_9N_r4blQ The other thing is theoretically knowing something and following the rules isn't going to get you a great pattern. Its the tweaking the draping on the tailor dummy and also a good amount of intuition and flair which really gets results.
