I just bought this jig yesterday. The first time you set it up you need to read the directions. I used the same plunge router as this video. You just need to keep the router with the guide plate tight to the router jig and it cuts where you guide it. I also used the Rockler juice groove bit and it cut very nice. Make 2 cuts and keep the shoulder of the bit below the guide. 4-1/2 stars out of 5 in my honest opinion.

How safe is it to use a regular router to put grooves in? Cant really afford a plunge router right now.
@rockler11 ай бұрын
You can do it, but it requires a lot of control and has a lot of inherent risk to you, and your work piece. Route the groove in many shallow passes. Try not to leave the router still in one place too long, or you can get scorch marks that are tough to sand out. Especially on the enter and exit points. However, many brands of palm/trim routers have a plunge add on available.

You can probably just buy a plunge base for your router. You don’t need a whole new router.

What stops the router from tipping?
@rockler10 ай бұрын
The base of the router is riding on the jig, with the guide bearing ridding the edge. The pressure just from holding it is enough to keep it easily controlled and stable.

@@rockler Thanks. It seems other comments have that concern.

It's very easy to hold stable.

This should have clamping brackets for 2" boards aswell. Most end grain cutting boards i have made and seen are thicker than inch and a quarter.
@rockler11 ай бұрын
You can add some scrap pieces under it as shims/risers to fit taller boards.
@meilyn223 ай бұрын
@rockler This is a single use product for $78. I would expect more from this product at that price. Just make it accommodate boards up to 2 inches without more work for the user.

Won't that guide cause the router to tip with such a narrow base?
@rockler11 ай бұрын
The base of the router rides on top of the rails of the jig for solid support.
@randyrice721411 ай бұрын
@rockler but that still leaves nearly half of the router base unsupported. It looks like a solid jig, but I'm clumsy and would accidently dip my router into the unsupported part of the base, ruining my cutting boards

No! Dip, you will not! Try, you must! The force is strong with you.@@randyrice7214

@@randyrice7214 The guide bushing also serves as a point of support for the router. So, you're not only getting support for the portion of the router base that is riding on the jig rail but also from the guide bushing resting flat on the cutting board.
