It's matters for safety reasons. Typically the hot is switched not the neutral so when things are turned off they are also de-energized. The neutral is ground referenced so it's unlikely to give you a shock. If you reverse the polarity, all the parts in the appliance will remain live at 120v even when off.

Someone please help. I am planning on buying a house soon. Starting the process. A lot of houses in my area, and in my budget, do not have dishwashers. My question is this: how hard or easy is it to put a dishwasher into a kitchen where there was none before? Does it require a complete remodel of the kitchen? Does it require tearing down walls? Or is it pretty much what this guy is doing by just making some adjustments to the pipes and electrical? Because I will buy a house if it doesn't have a dishwasher if it's fairly easy and cost effective to put one in. Obviously I know a cabinet will have to come out to be replaced by the dishwasher.

Very helpful thanks. In australia our dishwashers only have 3 connections and all 3 originate at the back of the appliance. Cold water in, drain out and a 10a 240v lead and plug. Too easy. You guys make a simple task so complicated.
@iLikeC00kieDough6 жыл бұрын
A.S Enfield lol I don’t know if you watched the video, but the dishwasher has a hot water tap, a drain line, and a electrical plug. I’m confused what is so different/ complicated here?
@ashleyw13934 жыл бұрын
iLikeC00kieDough I think the point is the electrical connection is an IEC plug not bare wires connected by those pathetic and dangerous wire nuts (which are illegal in Australia). And it is all at the back not the front. Whilst it doesn’t make a difference to installation per se we also connect cold water not hot, with the dishwasher heating it as required. We also have very strict temperature limits on our “hot” water. If a tankless hot water heater is used the maximum temp is 55’ C and if a tank it think it is now 60’ C. The tank temp is hotter though to kill bacteria etc and is brought down via a tempering valve.
@bcbock3 жыл бұрын
In the US it’s actually simpler. It’s just a hot water line. Why would you need a cold water line on a dishwasher?

I had my plumber install my dishwasher. It took them about a half hour. But they had already added a dedicated valve for the washer when I redid the cabinets and sink. So everything was planned out. It takes longer if you have to do a lot of modifications. For example, a dishwasher needs a dedicated GFCI outlet in my area. And we had to have a separate one for the disposal. We also had to have an air gap installed in the sink as our city doesn’t allow the high loop shown in these videos. But since it was a remodel, that wasn’t a problem. But it could take you a lot longer.

One thing I can’t believe unless she has massive back venting. I just did this a whole roughing in Ellicott city Maryland and it was all old copper DWV copper and everything was properly spaced except for one bathroom it did not have a back vent and it was properly spaced between the sink and the toilet, and it was stealing the trap water And we had it left just like that and the ladies sink because we were replacing to existing, it failed because we didn’t have a cheater vent where that 90 is should be a tea with a little scooter vent that goes above the trap level of the flood rim above the top of the drain, so the bottom of the base of sink, you normally want to go up with your cheater vent 2 inches above that line where it ties into the bottom of the sink and it will vent a lot better and if you want to put a garbage dispose on there it’s easier is the trap below the floor?

My thing is without a trap, proper venting and a dishwasher. Where is it venting to? Where is the vent at? Where is the trap at? Is it hidden from me cause I’ve seen him say it is very important to have a trap on your sink and plenty of videos it’s a code. It ain’t like a standing shower to where is though you can run your 90 out of your standpipe and put your trap near your trunk line like they do over west coast but here on the East Coast we try to keep our traps within the tailpieceunless engineered or specifically specified by an inspector and people got to stop buying things from Home Depot thinking because they sell it that it’s good that’s not always true

Dick Reed The unit should be supported front and back. If the back feet can screw down far enough to reach the floor then it's fine. Otherwise, some kind of blocking/flooring is needed. The other reason it's good to have the floor go under the machine is that it's easier to spot a leak if one develops.
