I absolutely love the finished product...they are much more amazing looking in person...oh yeah, I’m the doofus (owner) that failed at these shoes. The gentlemen at the Hanger Project are amazing to work with and I for one will not go anywhere else! By the way Kirby, I still can’t bring myself to wear them yet! They look way too amazing

Hi Kirby, I love how you don’t discriminate, one day you are reviewing a 2000 dollar shoe and the next you are paying as much respect and attention to a less expensive pair, because you know that quality craftsmanship is worth appreciation, not just a price tag.
@kirbyallison
@kirbyallison 4 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the compliment! That is what we strive towards here. As I have said many times, it is about quality, craftsmanship and tradition. The price tag is irrelevant if there are those elements. I always maintain that Allen Edmonds are a fantastic pair of shoes in terms of an accessible level into Goodyear welted shoes. If that is your price point, then that is money well spent rather than getting a cheaper pair of shoes with worse construction, in an attempt to save money. Quality is worth an investment.

Kirby, acetone is the exact same thing women use every day to remove nail polish. Perhaps if you were dealing with it in a 55 gallon drum you may need a mask, but to strip a pair of shoes its a bit much. This is simply hilarious, and way beyond the pale of what is really needed. A woman cleaning her nails may (I do mean may) crack a bathroom window, but it is not a hazmat operation. So funny my friend. Love your work and I’ve purchased a number of things from you, but this is crazy funny!

you are definitely very good and knowledgeable regarding shoes/ polish / burnish toe cap. and I appreciate your vids. just a little heads is when applying dye it would have been best t use that more precise thinner brush for ENTIRE dye job and NEVER allow excessive dye to pool or sit in any 1 spot like happened on right shoe below the toe cap on the outer part of the shoe. that rounded brush and the application method used was careless in having too much dye sit in a few spots and when the shoes were finished they were not uniform in color and visibly darker in the area i mentioned. much like staining wood it is very important to apply the dye/ stain EVENLY and keep moving without stopping in middle of a section for fear of a color line becoming visible once all is dry. yes dye/ stain when wet will will get better as it dries helping not show every imperfect stroke but it too much dye/ stain is allowed to pool in a spot then that spot will absorb much more color and you will be disappointed how much darker that 1 spot has become.

I would say that the video suited the purpose of covering the basic steps required but not as an illustration of highest quality work. There were a lot of places missed along the leather seams that were really bugging me. I prefer to use make up brushes as they're wider, hold plenty of dye and easily allow you to use bristle tips into those seams. Those daubers are pretty useless for shoes in my opinion.
@mesharyhd7646
@mesharyhd7646 4 жыл бұрын
@@djtaylorutube the mistake here he just used acetone to remove the old paint he must follow up washing the shoes with soap to remove all oils then wait for it to dry, then follow all that up with alcohol cleaning after that he have to wait for complete day and work tomorrow. Then you have two options work with the shoes dry or you can wet the shoes with alcohol then paint on it. This way you will avoid what happened in the video many cobblers use just Spong to paint the shoes

For example, in our trip to Carmina in New York, Richard and I looked through the different last shapes they have. Your suggestion is a great idea though, so I will have a think about how best to try it.

Hail Mary and thank the Lord to that shoe cream that helped a bit in making those shoes look better 'cause that dye job was criminal😊 ... patina😅. You botched it by letting the paint pool in some spots, some not covered at all, but if the owner was happy with them, it was a good practice for you.

kirby, why would you risk wearing your crisp white shirt to do the dye-ing? in one of your recent videos, i think you had some transfer onto your jacket sleeve? anyway, i think the light brown / walnut colour is nicer than the end product. different opinions i guess? cheers!
@kirbyallison
@kirbyallison 4 жыл бұрын
Well, much rather any stain on the white shirt than my jacket. Still, its is best just to try and be slow and careful and avoid making a mess on any piece of clothing! As for the color, it really is just down to personal preference. It would be hard to fix the darker stained spots on these shoes without going darker, and the result was what I was going for anyway, so this worked for me. Try your own colors though and send me the results! I would love to see a lighter walnut color.
@qarhsi
@qarhsi 4 жыл бұрын
@@kirbyallison I think it's safest to opt for wearing a tee shirt instead. But you dress up for the videos and respect for that. No Kirby, I won't be able to do anywhere near what you did with those shoes. What I meant was that the walnut colour looks better to me than the darker brown. But I understand and appreciate your reasons for it. Cheers!
