I will be doing this as my second pump is an AR RSV4G40 which is pretty good regardless of comments I've seen online. Idiots saying just to spend more money when this is easily doable and a cheaper alternative. More expensive doesn't always equal better.

My Simpson 4gpm has a Cat pump with internal unloader valve. If I were to add an external unloader valve, would I keep the original pressure nob that is currently on the machine to adjust pressure? So basically you add the new unloader valve after the original pressure knob and have two different adjustments knobs. The factory one will set the internal valve to 4000psi, and the new external valve would be set around 3800 psi.

I've been hunting all over for this solution. I will eventually set up a custom built washing unit for my shop, but now need to figure out how to keep this bugger from burning up. I can already feel the heated water running through the handle if I set it down even for half a minute. Thank you!

Great video I just ordered the unloader valve that you link up. Can I add this to my pressure washer even though I already have a unloader valve that is built-in to the pump? I’m just wondering how it will circulate if you can’t get past the first unloader valve.

tjc1ny yes you can . You will need to set the unloader on Machine at a higher pressure than the new one. So machine unloader 4000 PSI and one you bought at 3800psi or lower than machine one. This will allow water to circulate to the buffer tanj

Thanks for the simple explanation. Might be a dumb question cause I’ve never seen anyone ask this, but rather than a buffer tank, can you plumb the unloader bypass through a radiator and back into the input? Then the heat would be expelled through the radiator and you wouldn’t need the buffer tank. Also I assume the reason for needing the tank is because the built in thermal relief valve may not work? I have a cheap pressure washer and have definitely had water leak from the thermal valve before. But my focus here is on a different, free pressure washer I picked up, where the engine appears to be stuck but I pulled off the pump and it spins freely so I’m going to attach it to a new engine, but the pump has a built in unloader and I want to add a radiator or a tank to ensure the pump doesn’t burn up. Thanks again!

The integrated unloader in my pump is finished, to the point the spring is broken in 3 pieces. So the only way to do it is to max out the integrated unloader valve? Is there a way to block off the original unloader port and just install the external one?

if anyone has done this to a simpson alh4240 (honda 390 with a Cat pump) please for the love of god tell me where to get the discharge fitting that goes from the pump to the new external UL. I thought it was just a 3/8 nipple but I was mistaken. I got it plumed using the chemical injector but i know it is causing an unnecessary restriction in the line.

Jason, My unloader valve is actually a part of the pump, and after it is the chemical injector. It's a AAA pump on a Honda motor. I see no place to disassemle this, and I'm concerned about the pump overheating. I've watched your videos, but none specifically address this issue. What am I to do? I have a water tank in my van, with a Hudson valve, and water coming into a 4 way splitter so I can refill the tank, go to my pressure washer, and one for a safety rinser. Am I missing something other than what I see in the videos about plumbing this unloader valve?
