Thanks for the good explanation! Been searching for such an option for long time now. I only have one issue. If I project images to the mesh, the colormap gets unsharp where two or more pictures overlap. I can't get all images 100 % accurately. Do you have any idea how to solve this issue? Also I cannot always find the focal length in the file information of every image. Sometimes the field is just empty.

Hi Se Basch! Thank you for watching our video! We asked Griffen and here is what he suggested you to do: 1.If I project images to the mesh, the colormap gets unsharp where two or more pictures overlap. Solution: From my experience, you really have to think about stacking each of your photos alongside one another while doing this process. He suggested to try to have the least amount of overlapping from one picture to the next, select unique points to make sure your mapping the image as accurately as possible, and good lighting always helped get more crisp looking colors on the mesh. 2. Also I cannot always find the focal length in the file information of every image Solution: My recommendation first would be when taking the photos to keep the same distance while taking your shots, similar to TRITOP applications, that way your focal length should be the same throughout the photos taken. To find the focal length of the camera the customer is using, I personally was able to find mine online by googling the focal length of my iPhone as well as looking through the file information that they stated was “empty”. If googling doesn’t work, and if you are using a normal camera it should state the focal length of the lens attached somewhere on the front of the camera. Also, please make sure to take all the photos from the same distance and same focus to avoid changing your focal length from one picture to the next as the software only allows you to input one focal length for all photos being imported for that “measurement series”. To find the focal length of the camera being used, if it’s a digital camera you should be able to find the number on the lens or possibly in the settings of the camera. If it’s a phone camera you should be able to google and find that information online. We hope this helps. If you have any further questions, please email us at info@capture3d.com. Thank you!

How to do you export the .stl with the image mapped on it? Or can you only use it as a visual representation?

Great question James, If you want to export the mesh with color you will select the color mesh you wish to export, go to File>Export>Mesh>STL and check the box color where you can then export as a file type of GOM, Geomagic Marcam Viscam, materialise, or other.
