This video makes me want to make 10 pencil skirts in different colors, lengths, and fabrics. I was one of the ones silently wondering what you were wearing underneath. NOW I KNOW! First step, order the mesh. Next, line all the skirts I already have. Thanks for the tips and tricks.🤗

Fabulous result at the end! I know I've already commented but just want to say that you are one of the best sewing tutors I have ever seen on KZbin. In fact, I think you're the best teacher I've come across so far- not just with sewing. Everything is super clear and easy to follow and you don't waste too much time talking nonsense that we just don't need to hear. I can't wait to watch some of your other tutorials.

I have been buying your patterns and LOVE that you also show a step by step on how to put it together with your website. What a great way to promote your styles. I just love it!. Thank for sharing the power mesh fabric for an additional slimming look for skirts and dresses. I have been sewing for way over 30 yrs and still, there is more to learn about how to make your garments better. Happy to be part of your followers. Keep up the great work and keep giving us more styles with your patterns.

No more wearing my "spanx" tights under everything. I'm going to put elastic only in the mesh and use it kind of like a slip instead of putting it in each individual skirt. I guess I'm explaining it correctly. You are amazing Mimi thanks.

Great video. A question: you cut your power mesh smaller than your skirt, but it didn’t look like you were stretching it at all when you were pinning it to the skirt waistband area. Were you in fact stretching it a little and just didn’t mention that?

Hey Mimi, I checked out your 30 min pencil skirt video and loved it. I have a question about measuring. In your 30 min video you say to take 2 measurements, the length and your waist. But, the pencil skirt in this video is not just a rectangle. Could you please share with me what you did to make it more fitted like the one in this video. My hips and waist have a 4 inch difference and I would love to make a skirt like the green one in your video. Its probably super simple but I am very new to sewing and cutting patterns.

Thanks Mimi. I'm not a big skirt wearer but this might change my mind.. After seeing this video I have been thinking how I can incorporate the mesh into pants and shorts..If i follow your suggestion and cut the mesh smaller , do you think it would work if the mesh is sewn into the zipper ? or do you think it would pull too much on the zipper.

I'm inspired and will be making this pencil...but...you advised to watch the pencil skirt video first, which I did...(fabric cut is a rectangle)...and I'm noticing that in this compression mesh video the pencil skirt isn't quite a rectangle...the one stitch and the fabric are curved. There seems to be a difference in shape...what was altered? I can only imagine the curve makes the fabric more flattering. Please let me know how to go about achieving this alteration and adjustment. Thank you ;-)

This is a WONDERFUL idea! If you are the first person to come up with this idea, you should patten it, don't know if I spelled ( patten) correctly.. but you know what I mean. Lol.. I have three pencil skirts that i wear to church that I have to wear shape wear underneath. I figure maybe I can sew this mesh on the inside of those skirts?? I will also try out your pencil skirt tutorial.

You’re brilliant Mimi. Thank you. Quick question... well two questions really. What type of fabric did you use to make that gorgeous dress you showed us in your video. You looked stunning. You mentioned it was stretchy... was it stretch lame? And what kind if marker did you use to mark the waist edge of your pencil skirt in this video. Many thanks xxx

This is a good idea. However it only works in simple projects like this one and preferably where you have fabric hugging your body all around front and back. It gets quite a bit trickier in dresses although it can certainly be done since it can often pull and distort the dress, sometimes the neckline or armholes where the under structure is tighter. And the powermesh can ride up if too tight and you will feel like reaching all the time under the dress and pulling it down. As I said for pencil skirts like this it can work fine but I would stick to spanx for dresses and keep the two separate and moving separately and not attached

Thank you so much for this tip. I'm in the midst of developing a new type of bra and was trying to think of what fabric to use that would have some stretch but also hold its shape really well. Can I just ask one itty bitty sewing question though? I noticed that you didn't iron the seam on the skirt open and flat before joining the power mesh. Is that usual for a stretch fabric (I, obviously, haven't sewn much with knitted fabric before)?
