I have been sewing skating costumes for many many years. I find that if you stretch the elastic tighter at the bum curve the panties stay down better my skaters call it wedge proofing.

Andrea, thank you so much for this tutorial. You make it look very straightforward. You’ve moved me toward trying to figure out what is needed to get the jigsaw puzzle of pattern pieces together . Hey lovely I just wanted to thank you so much for this video. Tried making these with fold over elastic and picot and although fine just a bit fiddly. Thought I’d give the stretch lace technique on legs and waistband a go as I had 7 pairs constructed ready for elastic. Oh my goodness got them all done in an afternoon without any frustration. So so easy. Thanks so much.

Ah that’s fab Amelia. It’s a super pattern . I love this method, I was getting myself into a twist sewing the elastic in the round . It’s much easier sewing flat , especially on the mini acacias I imagine.

I have made a few pairs of the acacia knickers but I love your method so will be trying that way in future 😁 I have only used the piquet elastic but not the lace type so I will give that a go too 👍 I have loads of jersey scraps including the same fabric in the video 😻 so I think it’s about time I made another batch. Hi thank you so much for the tutorial especially the gusset part was so helpful❤️. It my first try sewing with knickers elastic. After doing the first stitches to attach the elastic. The whole leg area turned very wavy. Any idea what may have gone 😑 wrong. I didn’t stretch as i was sewing. Does needle stretch the fabric?

Just discovered your channel and am very impressed. I've made these before and found it difficult to put the elastic in on the round so I will try your method but I wondered if the elastic is the same size as the fabric doesn't it make the leg opening gape a little? 🙂

Hi Julie. This elastic method works for myself and my daughter.We experimented with lengths and found we had a 4 bum cheek look with the elastic any tighter than this. I guess its down to finding what works best for you
