Good Video. A Little tip for ya. Tighten the yELLOW hose onto the Refrigerant jug WHILE u are bleeding air out NOT after you purged a little air out. if u do like u did in the video it is possible to get air back into the yellow refrigerant hose when u stop bleeding air out. bUT, REMEMBER YOU STILL HAVE A SMALL AIR BUBBLE BETWEEN THE TANK AND HOSE NOW SO TO GET ALL AIR OUT U MUST CRACK TANK OPEN AT SAME TIME AS BLEEDING AIR OUT OF HOSE to Eliminate ANY AIR BUBBLES. This is Why i Use a 4 Valve Manifold Purging everything back through the manifold and out the vacuum Hole at the manifold elimanting all air from hoses through manifold. I'll Put up a video soon and show u What i Mean. Good Video besides that.

R22 is not an azeotropic (mixture) refrigerant. And charging as a vapor is perfectly fine and allows u to charge quickly. When a compressor kicks out on low pressure, I usually kill power and dump liquid to quickly add charge (allowing a few minutes before returning power) until the pressure switch is out of the picture. But that’s just me.

About to work on a walk in cooler. Haven't touched them in years so this was a good refresher on whats what and where its at. Thanks Ben! 😄✌

I like to front seat king valve and introduce liquid into the liquid line, after I've pumped the system down. It will minimize liquid pushing oil out of the compressor and slugging. Try it out. It charges alot faster as well

Are we always charge the gas with the LP and use only with the 2 hoses and remove the 3rd one

Hey Ben what if i was trying to put refrigerant in and forgot to crack the service valve on the line? My low side was only grtting 10 lol

@BenjaminSahlstrom Yes I could totally use your help all the time! I work in light refrideration and am still learning. I was charging a walk in cooler the other day and my high side was suppose to be around 155 due to the pt chart. But the low side was at 10 psi?
@hvacworx7414
@hvacworx7414 Жыл бұрын
Also I understand how you're supposed to find the High side Pressure because of pt chart. But how are you supposed to know the low side pressure?

Never forget to purge your hoses before opening the king valves. If you are checking a vacuum, vacuum your hoses before opening the king valves.

400 head pressure is high for r22 i would be suspicious of a dirty condensor or liquid line restriction.

R22 is not a blend and should be charged as vapour only into the low side of the system....

thay makes no sense a compressor is a compressor. follow the same steps as charging 410 and its fine. just because you can doesnt mean you have to
@captainmigs1655
@captainmigs1655 11 ай бұрын
Correct it is not a blend. But you can also charge it as a liquid or gas depending on your situation. If the system is dry and under a vacuum then u would charge as a liquid on the high side with the system off to fill that site glad then u can turn the unit on to check your superheat to see if you would need to add more or not.

Charging a system with no high side reading is foolish. Becauseeeee you could have a restriction in the system and you could over charge a system and burn up a compressor and get a call back.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree that it is not best practice. Would you mind editing your comment to explain a bit more to help others understand WHY it is "foolish"?

It was hard for me to see, I think the site glass moisture indicator was not green. So I think you have moisture in the system. Have you experienced charging a system with hydrocarbons?

Now it looked like the suction pressure was going to drop below zero psig which if the leak in the system is on the low side of the system wouldnt it potentially pull in air??

I’ve charged liquid mostly for decades. Always for blended. Never slugged a compressor but was always careful to moderate fLow. The valves sounded rather loud on his. 🥴🤔

As far as I've always known, you don't charge r-22 as a liquid, only as gas.

Shinobi-_-Oscuro Either is fine. Almost all refrigerants require being charged as a liquid so it's the most common charging method. There are very few refrigerants that aren't a "blend" of some kind these days. Thanks for your comment.

Only single component Refrigerants Can be Charged as a Gas. R-22 is a single component refrigerant. R-12 is a single component refrigerant. R-134A is a single component refrigerant. Most All Other Refrigerant these Days is a Azeotrophe or Blended refrigerant. if it has more than 1 component in the refrigerant jug it MUST be charged as a Liquid. Google msds sheet for any refigerant to find out if it is a single component refrigerant or blend etc. R-404 is Triple component refrigerant it MUST be charged as a LIQUID ONLY. you just can do that, no reason to make it take that long if you throttle it right.

Refractionation is what occurs when you add a blend as a gas. You begin to charge with not 1 but 2 or 3 different blends at different pressures and blah blah

R22 is a terrible choice for low temp equipment, I know systems have been built and designed with it but it’s just terrible. Also can you hear the valves in that compressor? I’m guessing it’s under incredible strain from pumping low temp 22 and most likely a TXV issue. I enjoy HVACR videos, seeing equipment, specific problem and techniques used by different techs but I have to be honest, I can’t see where this video is helpful in any way. It would only be useful to somebody who doesn’t know what to look for or why. Please keep posting, we need more interest in this trade but we have o be careful sometimes of what we put out there.

When you let the air out tighten hose while you are letting air out if you close your gauge first you won't purge your hose correctly that's if you doing the way you did please look at your video.
