The schefflera will be fine. They grow in shade like this in the wild. I saw them in google map they are growing under other leaves under DEEP shade in the pine forests of Taiwan

Thank you for this, that’s really good to know and it makes sense as it’s grown so well there in the shade! I just hope it won’t be stunted by the frond above it. No doubt they will battle it out naturally. I do have a lot planted in a small space and so it will be interesting to see how the space evolves!

The truth is - if they die back, they will reshoot from the base (with friends!) but I really wanted to safeguard the height of mine this year so I did protect them.
