Thanks Pete for your narratives. I’m doing lofi music video with 20 songs. The video part is ready…all I need to do is add the songs. Having a horrible time adding the songs in foreground one after the other. In background they pop in great, one after the other. In foreground they want to go all the way to the beginning. As I get on in the video, it’s really hard to get the next songs in after the previous. Any thoughts?

Hey Pete, thanks again for this one. I am however, stuck bad in trying to move the audio backwards and forwards in relation to the video. I’ve tried everything I could gleen from you and elsewhere. What I have is video of myself singing a song and audio from GarageBand of my voice singing to a karaoke version of the song I bought on iTunes. The video I took with my iPhone X, and it has the sound of my voice in the track from it’s built in mic. I was wearing headphones while recording video and audio at the same time. Thus, I can see where my voice is on the audio track attached to the video, especially if I detach it from the video. I’ve tried both ways, detached audio from the video, and the audio from GarageBand, and attached audio still on the video and the (main) audio from GarageBand. Neither way works. I’ve put the GarageBand audio both in the background and the foreground, to no avail. It remains stuck to the position of the video like a dog with a bone. I’ve trimmed off the front, the back and both, of the audio, but still it remains in it’s same position relating to the video. And of course, it’s not in the correct position. Now in iMovie on the Mac, it’s no problem to move the audio anywhere you desire. However, I’m trying to migrate my work to the iPad alone. This is very frustrating? Is it time for LumaFusion or another, more robust app? Thanks in advance.
@PeteJohnsMusic4 жыл бұрын
Hi there. I’ve had a few folks contact me about audio and how to line it up with video so o think I will investigate this is a video soon. I thought you could just make the audio foreground and position it where you wanted but sounds like that might not be the case?
@flyboytim20094 жыл бұрын
Pete Johns, thanks man. It hasn’t been the case in my experience. I’m coming from iMovie on the Mac, and I just want this one thing (move audio fore and aft)... Perhaps too much to ask. Is LumaFusion on the lunar horizon??? 🤔
@flyboytim20094 жыл бұрын
I had a thought, a dangerous thing. Since I could easily move audio in the Mac version of iMovie, and since I had in the past always saved the GarageBand song to iTunes on the Mac, I thought perhaps that’s the main difference between Mac audio moving and iOS audio moving, in iMovie. So, I took a GB track, moved it to iTunes on the Mac, moved it next to my iPad, and then moved it into a project in iMovie. Then I tried to move the audio. Still can’t do it.... 😡😡😡
@flyboytim20094 жыл бұрын
OK Pete, I figured it out. I used a clap technique I learned from someone, I don’t know who. You start the audio in GarageBand and then the video in whatever camera your using for video capture. You give yourself a little room, 20 seconds or so, to have some cutting space. You mainly want to start the audio first and the video second. This gives you space on your audio timeline to cut from the front. I suppose you could do this from the rear too, but that would be cumbersome. In the video, before you start the song, you make sure your hands are in the screen for a clap. The sound spike of the clap shows up as a spike in the audio wave on both the video’s sound (make sure it’s on) and the audio’s sound from GarageBand. After recording your audio and video, you start an iMovie project, doesn’t matter which one you load into the project first. After both the audio and video are loaded, the GarageBand audio, which was started first, will lag behind the audio on the video track. Next, you bring the volume of the video’s sound up to 150% or so, just so you can locate the spike of the clap. Remember, it will be prior to the spike in the GB audio track. You don’t have to seperate the audio from the video track, as long as you can see it to locate the spike. Next up, you have to cut from the front of the GB audio track to move the spike from right to left in the timeline. You keep cutting until the two spikes are in perfect alignment. Bingo! You’re synced up between the video from the camera and the audio from GB. Now you just turn the volume of the video’s audio to zero and you have the audio from GB for the rest of the main video/audio interface. Austensibly, it includes the music that you recorded your voice with in GB after going through the “clap” sequence during the original recording. Keep in mind, if you cut too much off the GB audio, moving the GB spike too far left, you can always add it back since it’s never really gone... This is not exactly like the fore/aft ability to move audio in iMovie for the Mac, but it works.... 🤓👍👍👍

Thanks for your helpful videos! A problem I'm having: I'm creating iMovie projects on my iPad, and when I save an iMovie file outside of the iMovie folder on my iPad, or import the file to KZbin directly from the iMovie folder, I lose the left/right stereo separation and end up with a mono audio track (which plays on both R and L channels). If I access the file within the iMovie folder, the iMovie app launches and the file plays with stereo separation just as it was recorded (using GarageBand iOS, exported as .wav). How do I retain stereo sound on the finished product from iMovie iOS for viewing/listening outside of the iMovie app?

This vid covered everything except for what I was looking for lol. how do you add multiple tracks to a video and have them play one after another? For instance if a video is long enough to have multiple songs throughout the duration of the video how do you add and drag tracks to where you want them to start? Every time I add an additional track it does not give me the option to start it wherever I please, instead it just starts it at the beginning and will not allow me to drag it to a different part of the vid. If anyone knows what’s up help ya boy out!
@PeteJohnsMusic5 жыл бұрын
Hey Cameron. Yeah, this is why I lean towards LumaFusion for a lot of my iOS editing these days. The issue with a song going right to the start is a pain. You can play around with the foreground/background audio which can help. Sometimes adding a background track for the whole song (from the start) then adding in foreground clips can work out. I should really to an updated video to cover more of this.

Hey there. My go-to way to do this is use the "AudioShare" app. It's only a few dollars to buy and a really useful app for sending audio around your iPad/iPhone apps and converting/trimming/normalising audio. Just import a video file in and then your can export as WAV or M4A.
@makkamccann4 жыл бұрын
Love your video tutorials. Thanks for sharing. I have a question maybe you can help with. I have been playing with some music videos and if I detach the audio, then split chunks of the video so I can have different zoomed sections if I add a 1.5 second transition it lengthens the video in total. Is there an easy way to adjust this so it remains in sync to the detached audio? It’s like it adds the time on and I have to manually adjust the length of the clip (from the left side)to line them up. Is there an easy way to do this?
@PeteJohnsMusic4 жыл бұрын
Hey there Neil. I’ve had the same issues with iMovie in the past and been looking for solutions. I’m working on some new I’m like tutorials at the moment so watch this space. If you have the money to invest, I do highly recommend (and use) LumaFusion as it provides some much better editing options.

Hey there. It’s not really possible to record to iMovie as such. What are you trying to create? Maybe provide a little more info and I’ll see if I can help. I also recommend LumaFusion if you’re looking for some higher end video creation.

Pete Johns I’m wanting to creat simple music video. I’m using auria on iPad and studio 1 on pc. The iPad is yealding some good results and its so easy to transport. Getting some good and accurate video footage with good audio at the same time is the problem. I’m having to record the audio then play it back and try to mime over the audio while recording video. It looks like the lumafusion which you recommenend mite be the answer. But I would like to know if its possible to record directly from auria into lumafusion before I shell out? Tanks again, much appreciated.
@PeteJohnsMusic4 жыл бұрын
Got it. So you want you actual vocal recording to be captured live by both Auria and another app like iMovie or LumaFusion? I’m not 100% sure this would be possible sorry.
@markc66104 жыл бұрын
Pete Johns thanks very much for your reply. At least I know not to spend too much time on searching for video recording for this then. I managed to use the I pocket app from Focusrite to record guitar directly Into the video from auria which gives a good reference to play back and re-record more video to put together. Using a click track also helps with the timing issue. ? Does Lumafusion have a steep learning curve for noobies? And can you use other iMovie videos and import them into a new project in I movie? Once again great tutorials, thanks a lot.

I’m having problems with the audio. I want a bit of audio in the beginning of the video, than pure normal camera audio, and then add in audio again later in the video but it won’t let me cut it forward so it’s just one audio next to the other when I don’t want audio in the middle part. How do you cut it? Thanks for the info!
@PeteJohnsMusic3 жыл бұрын
Hey there. You’ll need to use the “foreground” audio mode to move the audio up front and then you can trim and split it.

If you save gifs it saves into an album titled “Animation.” When imported into iMovie it is only a still image instead of a gif. And I found a little hack, the only way I know how to keep the moving gifs into iMovie is to screen record the animation but is there like away to import the original gif without screen recording?
@amaracea5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I don’t think there is yet. Even in LumaFusion it’s the same way as far as I’ve tried. I think a GIF is a completely different thing from a video so the apps don’t know what exactly to do with it and just use a snapshot of it instead. However this may change if you speak up about it more. The Photos app itself acted the same way until quite recently actually. It didn’t always play gifs in the Photos app.
@PeteJohnsMusic5 жыл бұрын
I’ve been experimenting with this too actually and haven’t been able to find a way without using a Mac or PC and syncing to iTunes. Will keep working on it.

I imported several video clips, and I wanted to start the music clip at the start of clip 2. The audio track just keeps snapping back to the start of video clip 1. :/ Is there a work-around?

Yup. You’ll need to tap the background/foreground button and make sure audio is set to foreground.

I generally use either GarageBand or AudioShare to record audio and then import in to iMovie or my editing app. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKekfpqVZsqhoKs

Hi there. You would need an instrumental version or "karaoke" version of the song. Removing vocals from a song to get a backing track is very challenging... almost impossible. Sorry!

Not really. It means you can’t use it in your projects due to copyright. Try downloading some DRM free sounds.

Hello! When I'm using iMovie's standard background music I can't split it without it changing from the beginning of the song to what seems to be the end. I want to only use the beginning of a song right where it is, in the beginning of the movie, and then cut the rest. That should be easy but it isn't! As soon as I click split and the song splits into two parts, the part that was the beginning before the split, right at the start of the timeline, suddenly turns into the end of the song! It does the same no matter if I push the foreground buttom or if I instead of splitting the clip use the yellow handles and trim it. It doesn't matter, I only get the end of the song when all I want is the start of it. Why does it change like this? I would be very grateful for any help!

Hey there. I’m getting a lot of folks ask about this so I may need to investigate it soon. Watch this space as I’ll pots a new video hopefully soon about this, hopefully with a solution. The other option is to use something like LumaFusion which is what issue for all my video editing.

Anna Hankers I’m not sure if this is exactly what you’re talking about... I was able to move the start of my song within the video by holding my finger on it for a second, then dragging it around. Hope this helps.

Hi Pete & friends - I only want to add the bridge of a song to my movie, but imovie wont let me trim from the beginning or the end. Is it true it just starts at the beginning and end where your project ends without allowing you to move the song around? Funny how the original movie maker for windows allows you do that, add multiple tracks and has better animations!
@PeteJohnsMusic5 жыл бұрын
Hey Amy. Yes, the way audio works can be challenging in iMovie. You can change it from background to foreground which gives you a little more control. I also tend to use AudioShare a lot which can help you trim and edit your audio files.

I'm making a slide show of pictures/videos set to music. I want to add 1 song after another, but every time I add a song it adds it to the beginning of my iMovie (instead of where my play head is located). So then I have 2 songs playing at the same time... I guess I can drag it to where I want it, but is there another way? I'm going to have like 8 songs by the time I'm done with the 25 minute movie and that's a long way to drag each song.
@PeteJohnsMusic4 жыл бұрын
Hmmmm.... yeah, I’m not sure if there is a way to change this behaviour? I use LumaFusion for more complex projects so would recommend that if you dos. Lot of video creation. It’s a paid app but worth it if you do an lot of creating.

Hi Pete and everyone else, just wondering with iMovie. Does anyone have the same problem - a song I put on iMovie and it only goes to 2:30 long. Is there a hidden special trick to this, as I’m trying to create a music album to put up on KZbin Thx and Cheers - Ash
@PeteJohnsMusic4 жыл бұрын
Hey there. Are you putting this over a static image? There is a 2:30 limit on images. You just need to add the image again and you can extend the audio.

can you use imovie to boost the volume of a recorded video file?
@PeteJohnsMusic4 жыл бұрын
Hey there. Yes, you can increase the volume in the audio options. I would recommend something like AudioShare as a better option as it can automatically normalise the volume to maximise the level without clipping. You can also use GarageBand if you’re looking for a free option - kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3SThWRpYr95pac
