How to program extra keys to a 2018 GMC Sierra. Should be the same for a Chevrolet Chevy Silverado.

Thanks for posting this. My dealer did not say use BOTH programmed sets like you did. I got my other set out of the safe and ran them thru and then the additional new one I just had cut. it worked just like your video showed. Sometimes it is the little things. Now I have a spare key just for kayaking on my body with no remote. THANKS!

Hey man, you just saved me over 100$. Originally lost one key and bought a key from Chevy which was 83$ by itself but they said I have to pay an hr labor for the computer to program it but they couldn’t get me in til the next day. In the meantime I looked back over my steps and found the one I had lost and done what you said and boom the truck did the program for me. Thanks

This is right from the manual. I added info between ( ). This will take about 30 minutes so you’ll want to put a battery charger or jump back on the vehicle while following these steps. 1. Insert the new vehicle (Un-programmed) key into the ignition. 2. Turn the ignition on. The security light will come on. 3. Wait 10 minutes until the security light turns off. 4. Turn the ignition off. 5. Repeat Steps 2-4 two more times. ( this puts the cars computer into a key programming mode) After the third time, turn the ignition on; the key is learned and all previously known keys will no longer work with the vehicle. 6. To learn a second key, ( program the original key back into the truck) turn the ignition off, insert the second key to be learned (Right Away within 10-15 seconds) , and turn the ignition on. After two keys are learned, the remaining keys can be learned by following the procedure in Programming with Two Recognized Keys

Yes you can. If you used key 1&2 to program key number 3. You can then use key 3 and key 1 or 2 to program the next key that would be key 4.

With an active OnStar service plan, an OnStar Advisor may remotely unlock the vehicle.

mbrusco103 Also check page 36 of the manual for directions if you don’t have two separate programmed keys. An original key and its clone will not work with the way its done in the video.

Same here, followed his advice He left on several comments here if you dont have 2 registered keys by leaving the new key in the on position for 10mins until the anti theft light turns off and repeating 4 times. Took about an hour but was able to program a new key without any other keys worked on my 2018 silverado@@adrianpena944

I purchased a cheep duplicator and got some key blanks. TheDEFU high security cheep duplicator cost about $200. Each key blank is about $10 each. Cut keys from GM cost about $125 each. You will need two programmed keys to add more keys like I did in the video. If you have only one key and need to program new keys follow the instructions below to clear all old keys and and add two programmed keys. From page 36 of the 2018 GMC owner’s manual. My suggestion is if you have a battery charger to hook it up as it will take quite a bit of battery power and if your battery is old this could be a problem. Programming without Recognized Keys If two currently recognized keys are not available, follow this procedure to program the first key. This procedure will take approximately 30 minutes to complete for the first key. The vehicle must be off and all of the keys you wish to program must be with you. The key is used for the ignition, all door locks and glove box, if equipped. If equipped with memory seats, keys 1 and 2 are linked to seating positions of memory 1 or 2. See Memory Seats 0 62. Programming Keys 1. Insert the new vehicle key 2. Turn the ignition on. The security light will come on. 3. Wait 10 minutes until the security light turns off. 4. Turn the ignition off. 5. Repeat Steps 2-4 two more times. After the third time, turn the ignition on; the key islearned and all previously known keys will no longer work with the vehicle. 6. To learn a second key, turn the ignition off, insert the second key to be learned, and turn the ignition on. @@firefighter1241 This also didn't work for me. We have a 2018 GMC Sierra SLT. Only one original key left (the spare got flushed down the toilet when we were on vacation! Nightmare....). The owners manual had these same instructions so I felt positive.... got a correct transponder spare cut (B119-PT-01), goes into the ignition followed the steps 1-3 but after 10 minutes, the security light does not go off. I have waited as long as 14 minutes (security light never goes off) and I've also tried just soldiering on anyway with the subsequent steps even though the light stays on....

You need to get the key cut specifically to your vehicles key code.

Brendan S I picked up a cheep key machine on eBay for about $140. It was worth it for me because just getting two keys cut would have cost me that. And I did 5 more keys for my truck and two more for my older brothers truck as well.

Are you using TWO keys original to the vehicle? Do they have the Chevy or GMC Logo on them? One key might be a clone of the other key. If a key was cloned then it sees only one key. Ever if you have two physical keys. It has to do with the chip in the keys. You also could have a problem with the chip reader on the ignition area of your vehicle. Best way to check it hooking it up to a computer and read the faults on the vehicle. Make sure you only have one key in your hand when turning the key forward. If you have both key or multiple keys on the ring it could be reading other keys chips.
