I just got wiring harness that runs from driver to passenger seat.do I just splice the wires in where they come from under the dash and from the doors and splice the wires that go to the back doors. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
@Nordic_Mechanic6 жыл бұрын
First thing is splicing or plugging into the big connector under drive side dash. Follow the wires to make sure they go to the same place especially in the module with yellow plug under the driver seat. My harness was different because it came from a different bodystyle (avanlache/escalade) so yours could plug in. There's not much going to the back door but thats where you splice the purple wire. You may have unused wires too. driver front seat ground connection (big black wire) may also need to be connected to a ground depending where the harness was cut

Great video. I have been studying it trying to get my power/heated 2003 denali seats swapped into my 2004 silverado 1500. I pulled an entire harness from a 2003 Avalanche but instead of swapping the entire harness, I just tried to add the connectors to the seat harnesses that were missing from my 2004 factory harnesses. I added the orange power and black ground to the passenger seat, the orange ran back up to the driver's kick panel relay box C10 harness. I just inserted all the female pin connectors into my harnesses. It is mainly wires that run between the drivers seat connector and the passenger seat connector. In my diagrams, these are all the wires that were in the avalanche connector that were not in my connectors. I can't find a wire that runs into the yellow airbag module that you are calling the blue wire. Can you give me details on this blue wire? what is it actually called in the circuit diagrams? I added the door switches and I get them to beep when i press the memory button but no heated seats are working. I feel like I am missing a simple wire that is needed but I just focused on the 2 seat connectors.
@Nordic_Mechanic Жыл бұрын
you get the beep since the switch are using the window switch for can bus connector. But you still need the can bus of the new seat module to communicate with the bcm. That's what you are missing, the can-bus link

I just did this conversion to my 2004 gmc sierra duramax. I used seats out of a yukon and the harness from a 2004 escalade. I have the seats working except the passenger seat heater will turn on for about a minute or so and then shut off. I believe it is just a bad element within the seat but I also did not connect another ground wire to the drivers side post. I don't know if that is affecting anything. My larger issue is that since I did all this wiring my gauges, radio, windows, and door locks went wacky. It went back and forth from not working to working (over the course of about a day). Now everything is working (I'm thinking the body control module had to relearn with the added functions) except my body control module has lost communication with the transmission control module. The TCM is functioning and the truck still shifts but I lost my trans temp guage, the shift indicator and tow/haul switch lights up but does not function. Do you have any ideas of what this could be. I didn't think this harness had anything to do with connections between the TCM and BCM. Any help would be much appreciated!
@Nordic_Mechanic7 жыл бұрын
Id look at all the wiring, then the module under the driver seat. This module communicates with the bcm through the canbus. any short or any module connected to can could hog up the serial bus and cause other device to not be able to communicate. unplug the computer, see if it does anything different. then unhook the harness from the footwell and see if it comes back. There is no garantee your seat module is good. But for it shutting down it's usually heaters. Without the ground, you won't have the power seat working on the passenger side. If you do, itd check where the thick black wire goes. (The thick black wire beside the orange one in the connector) Can you post a video?
@jordanfereira48237 жыл бұрын
I found two black wires that went to a ground point further in the escalade harness that I had cut. I attached those wires to the ground point on the post next to the drivers seat. They had no effect on anything. I still have no transmission communication. The escalade harness did have a back up sensor module on it that was past my cut point. I am wondering if that has anything to do with the loss of tcm communication. To my knowledge the two wire twists are part of the can bus network? I see there are some of those that I had cut thinking I didn't need the rest of the harness. My other thought on this is that it could be my body control module since the TCM is working properly other than no communication. Now that I think of it the BCM has been acting up over the past 6 months to a year. Little things like the radio not shutting off after opening the door, the chime not stopping after removing the key from the ignition, the doors not activating interior light. Could the added seat control module have pushed the BCM over the edge?
@Nordic_Mechanic7 жыл бұрын
yes the 2 grounds you found I also cut. my harness was escalade as well, and there is a big orange power wire going to the back. Make sure it's properly capped off. Unplug the harness at the junction box near the brake pedal . If it does nothing, you may really have a bad BCM. But please check all the wires going to it for any signs of rubbing on the bracket. Sure sounds like a BCM trouble now
@jordanfereira48236 жыл бұрын
I've figured it out! Yesterday I swapped BCM's with my buddies truck. My BCM functioned properly in his truck and his BCM had no effect on my issue. Then we swapped TCM's. My TCM in his truck produced the same no communication issue. His TCM in my truck illuminated the shift indicator and the transmission gauge. Unfortunately my TCM is bad. It is an expensive fix but at least I know what the issue is. Thanks for your efforts.

You are right, purple is defrost. I recently broke my rear window and found my truck had rear defrost. So the window in the truck is not original. For the module under the seat, it's the airbag controller. The connector I replaced is because the seat and wiring came from a different truck, namely, a avalanche. I just made sure the wires would trace back to the correct truck wiring from the new seat wiring. The wire under the passenger seat I mentionned in the video and IIRC its the ground of the seat. Lots of info in the video but if you want seemless install like I did, you can't use 2002 in a 2006. The truck generation split in 2003. so keep 1990-2002 and 2003-2007 together. The 2003 are totally different wiring wise, canbus and all. That's why I was able to simply plug in the heated seat module in the doors, and they send command through the serial bus to the module under driver seat. Airbag will still work if you follow the video. Also said in the video is if you dont want heated or memory, all you need is to connect the orange and black of each seat. If you take the seats from a same year model you can simply plug in everything and it will work minus the memory seat (require bcm prog). I used seats from a different platform and year. Thats why my wiring was so different. I have 2005 truck, seats and loom from 2003 avalanche with rear entertainments.

double check the orange wires and black wires. Make sure the connections are right in the b pillar. Also, heated seat will turn off by themselves if a heater pad is bad. the bottom left side pad is the usual one to fail
@101MonsterGaming4 жыл бұрын
Hey they are working now more cycles seemed to help, they still turn off randomly but sometimes they stay on for 10 minutes, it’s weird, and other times turning one on causes the other one to turn off, I’m gonna wait a week and see, did you say yours took a few days to start working properly? I just did it yesterday also thanks for the quick response! (Also your video was the only thing on KZbin that actually helped me)

Hey Sorry Veikra one Last question, so for this swap did you use the BCM? Because I swapped a harness and No BCM and I still have an airbag light...
@Nordic_Mechanic3 жыл бұрын
No, im using stock BCM. Airbag light is something else. For instance, could have a bad airbag in the seat causing problem. Also, do not plug in the connector for the side airbag if your old seat didnt have a side airbag either. Scan the airbag module. It will narrow down your search. If it wont communicate you have a wiring issue. If it does communicate then it will tell you whats at fault. It is NOT a bcm problem. As I said before, if you are unsure , check the harnesses side by side. Some pins could be different althought same year and model seems unlikely. Just not impossible since the 7 way seat have more stuff to them that the other.
@williammclaughlin26063 жыл бұрын
@@Nordic_Mechanic harness was identical, old seats were electrical with air bags. I will scan them I’m hoping it’s just one of the sensors or air bag.

@Nordic_Mechanic6 жыл бұрын
the twisted pairs are pretty much all the same color except one pair. You see a pair with a green wire, you connect to the pair that has a green as well. The positions in both connectors are similar too. There was also a blue one, which when to another blue. It's related to the rear radio and center console subwoofer so not critical. DO NOT HOOK UP the side airbags wires if your truck didnt have them . Thats the wires I taped off

I misread your comment, that's supposed to be the other way around. The new seats have airbags in them, and thus that airbag module plugs of the new seats will have more wires. Which model truck and year do you have, and in what did you take your seat and harness?

My truck is LT1, with leather seats but only 4 way power on driver side, all manual on passenger like you- and no Bose and manual heat control. Will my BCM work with this swap? It’s my understanding you didn’t need to do anything with the BCM but your truck did have more options than mine like heat and Bose so I’m not sure.
@Nordic_Mechanic Жыл бұрын
Technically it should work. The BCM has nothing to do if you dont go for memory seats. The window switch simply relays the info on the CANbus and the module under the driver seat picks it up and turns on the heated seats. It's kind of neat

@Nordic_Mechanic7 жыл бұрын
it was crazy expensive, I think I said it in the video but I dont remember 100% 400$ or 800$ or something. And you can use any harness from 2003+ with the top option seats. (heated and memory) Look in scrapyard for suburbans and tahoe, they pop up more often in scrapyards in full options since top of line pickups are rarer per production numbers. I see the seat removed, but the harness is always there. I wonder if the suburban at my local junkyard is still there, he had the correct one but I didnt have tools on me

Extremely cool and helpful video bro. Have you ever replaced one of the drivers side heated elements? I believe mine just went out. Anything feedback would be great. Thank you and have a good one bro.
@Nordic_Mechanic7 жыл бұрын
I've not had to replace any element on this one. Usually the bottom element is the first to go out. Did both of yours go out at the same time? Are the passenger side ones working? The lights on the button should flash to indicate a problem

Veikra it's usually intermittent. I believe the drivers side bottom element went out. Passenger side works good til I turn on drivers side. I know the bottom heat elements go out 90% of the time. I was just curious if you replaced any because you seem very knowledgeable. I have an 04 cadillac escalade 6.0

I was sure I had to replace at least the bottoms one, as these seat came out a 2004 escalade. Did not have to, it's not THAT bad to do, just need to take your time and be a sticker for detail when putting back the leather in place. So far so good, 2 winters, still toasty warm ! Only use the 2 and 3 light for warm up, then only on the first one.

Literally just go buy a set of donor seats, take the seat harness from under the carpet, and the door cards. To the average person that’s way easier than doing all this haggard shit and exactly what I did so the only real hassle is peeling the carpet back to SWAP a harness, not create a fire hazard in my cab….
