Awesome! Great Idea. I knew an Ex-Slave who was born 1850. The News Media interviewed him several times. I would love to find the interviews was done in Dallas, Tx. He was Alive before Lincoln was President, but died while President Nixon was in office.

Do the research for the time he died... then contact the archives at the news stations to see if you can find it.

I've already done that with KZbin videos. My third cousin twice removed was a 1930's UK movie star called Elsie Randolph, so I've linked a few videos to her.

I understand Ancestry has updated their privacy policy and this has many concerned with photos and stories and Ancestry having rights to those photos and stories and doing what they want to do with them, so attaching videos too will this not be of concern too as well? Just concern and asking question

All you are doing is adding a link. So, while I'm not a layer, I don't see how they can claim copywrite to something in a link.

I think this is a MAJOR flaw on ancestry and I wish they would fix this option and allow us to upload video's directly to the site. There is no guarantee this social media sites will be around 100plus years from now. Video is a huge source for documentation!

Actually, and this may've been added after your video, I'm not sure, but Ancestry actually does have a very simple way to assign who's who in a photo. Simply: 1. Click on the photo to view it; then 2. Click "Show Tags", the icon at the very bottom of the little row of icons next to the description, it's a little head and shoulders; and lastly 3. Click on who you want to tag in the photo. It will then prompt you to search the tree for a name to assign to the face you've selected, and boom! As for the rest of the video, genius workaround. You deserve so many more subs, and I'm happy to now be one!

Where's the best place to post group photos on Ancestry?
@GenealogyTV
@GenealogyTV Жыл бұрын
I would post it in every profile that has a person in the photo and label where they are in the photo. Alternatively, you could post it in say the oldest persons profile and then use the "add web link" feature to it in other family members profile (in the source column).

Your guidance on adding a video to an ancestry profile gives me hope. Thanks! I want to put a video of my deceased wife on her profile but could not find a way to accomplish it. Also, if I may be so bold, hoping you don't mind me correcting your English...your tagline GO FURTHER FASTER..., though snappy, mis-uses the word further. It should be GO FARTHER FASTER. I quote from WOE IS I, THE GRAMMARPHOBE'S GUIDE TO BETTER ENGLISH IN PLAIN ENGLISH, by Patricia T. O'Conner, page 99: "father/further. Use farther when referring to physical distance; use further to refer to abstract ideas or to indicate a greater extent or degree. Example: Lumpy insisted that he could walk no farther, and he refused to discuss it any further." Your use of the word "Go" suggests distance, so farther is called for. I hope you feel helped and not abused. Keith in Omaha.

@GenealogyTV 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Keith in Omaha. Thanks for the feedback. I have often debated this with myself. I love your explanation. Let's think about this for a minute. Could it be argued, that the genealogical strategies I teach are expanding the ideas and thought process of the genealogist in an intellectual way and not in distance traveled. I hear you about the use of the word "Go" indicating to go somewhere. What if the tag line is meant as to "go further" expanding the mind in a logical sense and not a travel sense. Thus, going further in your mind... opening the mind to new ideas? I love a good conversation. Clearly I'm not an English major. You have me thinking about changing further to farther... but... I want to think this through. Thanks again, for expanding my knowledge.

@@GenealogyTV Oh good! You were not offended. I enjoy discussions about words and grammar. I used to do a lot of writing for publication. I received a couple of letters from readers who took me to task for some poor English. That got my attention. I went to work on it and have improved mightily. But I have more to learn. My dear wife used to copy-edit my writing. She was good! But she died (2 1/2 years ago after 66 years together -- I still reel from that loss!). So, as I said I rely on tools like the book I mentioned. Anyway, I think that to say, "To go further in your mind" still suggests movement, distance, advance. So "farther" is better. So then, do you want me to go on about it any further? Have a great day, wherever you are. 'Tis a beautiful day here in Omaha. I'm an old retired preacher, so I'll say, "God bless you!" And tell you that I have about 101,000 entries in my tree on Ancestry.

You might want to use Internet Archive instead of Google because Google deletes accounts (including videos from youtube) after two years of inactivity. So, if I upload a video of my parents to youtube, then I die, after two years, Google will delete those videos along with the rest of my account. Internet Archive doesn't do that.
