Loosen the nut and claw. Put a block between the bridge block and body, then tune like a hard tail. The block thickness should be such that your bridge is level. The block keeps the bridge from rising. Once in tune slowly tighten the claw until the block can be slid out with no friction. This is a way to tune like a hard tail, then balance out the tension after your in tune. You never have to go back and forth trying to find balance and the bridge stays level. I should add that you need to tighten the nut before removing the block. Do a little fine tuning at the bridge and you’re done.

Why would I loosen the claw before blocking the bridge? Wouldn't I only adjust the claw after the fact, if it's necessary? Why not block the trem from both sides, unlock nut, change tuning and/or put new strings on, get everything in tune, lock the nut, remove the block, then use JUST the claw screws to get the bridge back to flat? At that point, it should be in tune again or close enough to use the fine tuners.

@@joehansonguitar ok so I change the strings, go to tune from low to high after undoing the locking nut... as I tune the strings the floating bridge keeps moving so I go back and tune and this causes the other strings to go flat, it's a constant back and forth

Yes. So until the strings and bridge equalize with each other, that will happen. If you are changing string gauge, the tuning or the guitar was never setup correctly, then you have to adjust the spring claw until the bridge sits level with the strings in tune. It can be a tedious process at first but once you get it set and you don’t change tunings or strings size, it will return to the same place after your next string change. Yep, that’ll do it. It might be some work getting it back to standard tuning and stabilized with the bridge but once you get it it should be good. Let me know how you do with it

Ugh that is a prestige Floyd road bridge..your supposed to line it up with the mark on the side. Not submerge it down that low. It will pop off the post like this. This is why I don't trust many luthier.

lol, I don’t think so. This is an Edge Pro and your desired action will determine its height. this is how Rich Harris at Ibanez Rules set it up when I bought it in ‘05. Rich knows his way around an Ibby. I’ve been playing Edge trems since the early ‘90’s and can tell you that this is a completely normal way to setup this trem.
