It definitely can take some time, once its dialed in its golden!

As a kid, I'd use a spoke to set the hub in second gear. Spoke thread is the same the sturmey thread. Just screw it in and find second gear, then bend the spoke to keep it in that gear

Sterley Archer adjusting was easy after your video. Thanks

Thank you for the very clear video. Now I understand what's happening in the adjustment process. Unfortunately, I found out that my cable is still really slack and doesn't shift at all. So now I think I need a video on replacing or shortening a cable that might be stretched after years of use! You got one of those coming?
This explains how to set the cable length and/or replace it.

Great explanation thanks. I have a SA 3 speed on my Treck 20" folding bike & would like to convert it to a 7 speed from another bike I have. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the video. I'm wondering why this SA hub is not as clicky as the one on my Brompton? Mine is as chatty as it can be to a level that I'm looking to replace it with a an external hub.

@@KevBautista Probably needs some grease inside. Or oil, old sturmey hubs have oil port. Tilt bike on the side unscrew that bolt with the chain and pour about 50ml oil inside. If clanking doesn't go away then best to take thing apart and rebuild. All the best.

I recently picked up a '67 Schwinn Deluxe Racer with the 3 speed Sturmey. This type of hub is pretty new to me and I was curious, are they SUPPOSED to click while pedaling or is there something wrong with mine? Also, I notice it has a lubricant access plug. What do you use to lube them? I appreciate any help you can provide, thank you.

yes there are pawls that get overidden and you can sometimes hear them quite normal. just use any good light oil say SAE30 wouldn't go any thicker needs about two teaspoons when filling from new but don't worry if you have too much. better than not enough. The gears are oil lubricated by the oil sloshing about. make sure you seal the filler or it will all run out and splash every where as you ride.

I thought you were NOT supposed to be pedaling when changing gears on a Sturmey-Archer? But it is ok for the wheels to be turning/coasting.
@aleydrus80673 ай бұрын
On a Brompton, you cannot shift while pedaling. You have to stop pedaling and then shift.
@earlhorecky30506 ай бұрын
“Don’t like to shift unless you are fully pedaling”? U realize it won’t shift if you’re pedaling?
@thomasharlos68724 ай бұрын
Thats what I found. It would only shift when I did not pedal.
@MrEpsilonZeroАй бұрын
Correct, but bike is not being ridden, so hardly any tension in the drive train, so you can get away with it.
