Matt, Great video, good clear step-by-step directions. The only thing I couldn't follow was, where is the shaft with the dimple in it. I'm certain I could locate it once inside the engine. Anyhow, again GREAT video. By the way that's called an Acorn nut.

The camshaft or the engine need to be in any specific position like TDC or something to do this procedure? I noticed the exact thing you said the piece of metal with the dot doesn't not move its stock like something doesn't let it move i though could be because of what I said above. I will wait for your answer and thank you for sharing your knowledge.

What if you already tried to take the pump off? I unscrewed the bolts, and it wouldn't come off, so I pushed it back in. Now, I get no fuel after priming everything ahead of it. Am I screwed and if so, what do I need to do?
@MattsShop8 ай бұрын
I never took the pump off. It has copper shims behind the pump body to time it. That should be fine. Sounds like you knocked something out of alignment.

Hello, I have a John Deere 455 that used to be my dads and he passed a couple of years ago. I have since been trying to keep up with maintaining their property and the 455 has been giving me issues and has runaway on me before (I got it to die thankfully). I believe that the governor is stuck in this. I had just replaced the fuel filter, opened up the injection pump rack and freed up two stuck delivery valves, and cleaned up the injectors. This all helped and it fired off right away after bleeding the lines at the injectors and it immediately ran away. Am I on the right track in thinking the governor is stuck / something along those lines? Any tips, or help would be great as there is no how to that I can find on the governor for this engine. It is a Yammer 3 cylinder in-line, model number 3TNA72UJ3. Again, any help, pointers or tips are greatly appreciated as I have limited time that I am even able to get away to work on it, let alone try to keep up with the property. .. also, how likely is it that there was any damage done when it ran away and what would possibly have been damaged? Piston rings, valves, etc..?

I tried that on mine now it has no power dies on me did you have throttle lever wide open when you did the adjustment or off position or what?
@MattsShop2 жыл бұрын
The throttle lever is set where it doesn't mess with the adjustment and the return spring is disconnected.
@brandonlee3875 Жыл бұрын
Ok thanks ive ended up doing a partial rebuild new Rings rod bearings new Pistons did reuse the old sleeves they look fine but now it still has hard time starting the throttle has to be wide open and it barely will start but after that it runs okay I have to figure out that governor try this procedure again I don't know what else to do and yes one of my Pistons were broken like yours and the one on the back was all scored up all down the sides don't know what for but still the cylinder wall looked fine think it has diesel compression trying to figure out why it is hard to start

Matt, I have the same tractor as you have. My dilemma is there isn't a divot on the shaft that the governor is connected to. Any ideas on what to do? My problem was I could not rev the engine any more than 1000 rpm's or it would run away on me. I would put it in gear and put the brake, push the lever to kill the engine and pop the clutch to kill the engine. So my research led me to maybe think the governor might be the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

rebuilding my john deere 850. govenor looks exactly like yours. i kind of forcefully removed the timing cover to get crankshaft out. now that i need to reinstall timing cover i cannot find enough information on installing counterweight bracket and adjustment screw back on. first time it looked right but i ended up breaking the adjusting screw when it fired it up. have you had timing cover off or seen a video of it being done
@MattsShop2 жыл бұрын
That's exactly why I didn't want to take my timing cover off. No I have not seen it done. Check the description for a link to the service manual. It should help.

Hey Matt. I have a Yanmar 2610D tractor and the injector pump went bad, I purchased a rebuilt one but now I am having trouble getting the old one out. The slide pin inside will not let the pin move so I can pull the pump out. This is my first time on this tractor so any tips will help. Thanks. like your video easy to follow.

Did you figure it out
@DaneStCyr Жыл бұрын
Matt , Do you a video on pump timing
@MattsShop Жыл бұрын
I was going to make one. The service manual is confusing. I had to disconnect the lines at my pump and slowly rotate the engine over by hand (battery disconnected) until the injection timing marks line up. When they line up (corresponding cylinder to corresponding timing mark) the smallest amount of diesel moves at the pump fittings. If the diesel moves before or after the mark you have to advance or retard the timing with the shim thickness on the back of the pump accordingly.
@headpainter12 жыл бұрын
I follow you with the two access panels and disconnecting the spring and all. But where were you looking to see the rod with the DOT? Is there another access panel down low I'm trying to follow you. Do I have to have the oil pan off?
@headpainter12 жыл бұрын
I figured it out. It's the slider rod on the injector pump. Smaller than I was looking for and covered in black oil so I couldn't see the dot. Makes perfect sense now. Thanks a lot for access to the manual. I have my pump out putting new barrels and plungers in that's why I missed it.
@MattsShop2 жыл бұрын
Glad you figured it out. Make sure you time the new injector pump correctly. The diesel injection pump timing is advanced or retarded with the thickness of the copper washers (shims) behind the injector pump. The manual tells you how to do it. You are supposed to you a special tool, but it's dumb. I basically look for the diesel to move out the injector pump ports when the timing pointer lines up with the injection timing marks on the front pulley.
@headpainter12 жыл бұрын
@@MattsShop I appreciate that. Yes I ordered a pack new spacers.in prep for the install timing process. Was planning on just rebuilding my pump and using existing spacers to keep from messing with timing but they got damaged prying pump off. Might be able to salvage them but will check and adjust timing as well. Cheaper to buy barrels and plungers at $80 x 3 sets than a new pump with timing headaches. Not easy to find though. Every one wants to just sell the replacement pump.

I had it apart resealing everything, so I checked it. I also took off the front cover to reseal it. I figured I better check the governor while I had it apart.
