I bought my 2002 1500 4X4 DBL cab 8 foot bed back in 2009 from a dealership. They listed it as having a 4.8. It had 90K miles on it then. It has 280K miles on it now. About a year ago, the rear end pretty much went out. I looked up the codes in the glove box so I could determine what the rear axle gear ration is. It was then, 15 years later, that I learned that it actually has a 5.3 in it per the LM7 code and the T in the VIN. 15 years, thinking the entire time that it was a 4.8. 😂😂. It's probably the best truck that I have ever owned, still own.

Also makes it downshift earlier to, as you said, keep it in the higher rpms. But it also does some engine braking when going downhill, taking some of the strain off the brakes

Spark plug is a spark plug. You have to properly gap a regular plug. The platnum and iridium plugs do not need to have the gap set as they are pre set and covered. Oem plug wires are made with bigger wire. Some other premium brands are also that same size. FYI delco makes almost nothing. Its all rebranded someone elses stuff. There are tons of wire sets to use as well. Even ngk and autolite. Both of those companies make the ac delco wires. Just dont buy the cheap wires. Spark plugs and wires simply make an arc and deliver the power for the arc. You need fast delivery and a good spark. So biggest copper size in wire. (Also quality for noise suppression. Dont want the whistling radio) proper gap plugs. The rest of the spark plugs are gimmick sales. E3 multisparks. Platinum.. iridium. Cheap plugs are made with cheaper metal and will open the gap under hard driving. If you want to rep spark plugs then why not rep the only usa made spark plug? Pulstar. About the same price as those mexico/china ac delco plugs. But you get to feed other Americans.

Not true. They would leak after long ... And I say long time, like any other vehicle. But not as bad as them little four bangers wich will give problems in four or five.

What tow haul mode does is prevent the tcc from engaging and destroying the tc. If you are overheating your trucks transmission you are doing it wrong, your probably overloaded either too much weight or the truck doesnt have the necessary coolers to tow.

I had a suburban we took for an oil change and they must’ve started it without putting the new in because it had a slight knock and never had pressure especially idling but it still ran hard for 4 years until we sold it.

Any tips for when you have already had the water pump and thermostat replaced but are still leaking? I've run pressure tests and those come back fine but never see any coolant on the ground. After I top it off I get the low coolant light after about 6 months
@davidiverson4072Күн бұрын
I had a leak where the heater hoses connect to the water pump. Got that piece replaced and went with new heater hoses at the same time as hoses were original (2005.) Main radiator hoses replaced 2 years ago. Last summer was a hot one, no coolant leaks during that time.

Even for mountain driving with no load, I would use the tow haul mode. It reduces shifting and keeps the torque converter locked for longer. It really helps reduce the trans temp and provides more torque.
@multiluxem2218Күн бұрын
Mine is K2 tahoe (not a vortec though). The tow haul mode also changes the blinks of the turn signal. In normal mode, if you push the turn signal stalk to the intermediate position, it will blink 3 times. But in tow haul mode, it will blink 6 times. Really helps u make sure other people can see ur changing lanes lol

The real trick is to not use a gas truck to tow, unless you’re trying to tow something really light in which case the tow haul mode is worthless

Hey Matt! Just curious as to your thoughts on brake calipers. Should they just be ignored if working OK; or should they be replaced at any certain particular point in time due to age and possibly seal leaking?

Wow. Great information that I will never use since I dont have thaty vehicle, but very informative for those who will need it. When i first met my wife, her cars battery ground cable to chassis was loose. She told me the shop she toook it to had to replace so many battteries under warranty and a starter. I poped the hood open and found the loose ground and replaced it, no dead battery issues in 8 years since.

Or if you’re mentally challenged and decide to put racing heads on it that max out the stock injectors, then you don’t keep your foot out of it because it sounds so damn good and blow a head gasket that makes it start overheating, that could be a possibility too 😭

The special tool to remove the heater hose didn’t work for shit. Had to resort to cutting the plastic piece at the fire wall with a multi tool. I went a little to far the teeth of the blade hit the pipe that the hose connects to. Put on some jb weld put everything back together and she’s still going about 3 years now.🤣
