Yes this is important! The date changing mechanism is engaged within this timeframe and quick changing the date within this period can damage that particular mechanism. Exact time varies between different movements, but it's better to be safe than sorry

It could, that's why the general advice is to avoid doing it at all. But on the other hand, it would be interesting to do an experiment on that... lol

Not sure if you still look at the comments here. I've just received a watch bought on aliexpress with an NH35 movement and went looking for a guide on it's use since they didn't send anything with it. Any idea how long it would take to fully "wind" an NH35 watch just by shaking it? I'm a bit unsure about winding it since I don't know how much it was wound before I received it. I had a Seiko Kinetic watch for a long time which I would routinely shake/wind and I don't mind the effort.

it changes by itself, just set the time ahead rather than backwards

This is a much debated question, but no, it's not possible to overwind a watch with a modern movement. Either the movement stop you from winding when it's at full wind, or the mainspring is designed to slip in the barrel when it's at maximum torque.

Some watches allow you yo know if it’s pm or am. Let’s say it’s 8 am and you want to set the date, if you turn the crown 180 degrees, the date won’t change but if it was 8 pm, the date will change if you turn the crown 180 degrees.

Really wish the watch I bought made is really clear about the ability to damage your date gear and not have it on the last page of the manual in small ass font. Maybe a card or a sticker on the watch telling you not to change it between those times.

Dude the pagani manual is so dumb, im lucky i didn't destroy mine because wasn't even nh35 thst it was referring to, it says don't wimd between 4&8. Luckily i couldn't figure out to wind it until i searched that its noon. Its still stupid because you set the date then have to move to set the time and i can see myself forgetting and moving to date after i set the time to 11

The pagani manual is trash, in it from what i could even understand it said wind it before 4 and after 8 dont spin round rod around 6 o'clock. They need some English speakers to start writing it

Turning the hands anti-clockwise doesn't do the watch any favours either.

Seiko instructs you in the manual to turn the hand back slightly then forward again when setting the time.
