How to Adjust for a Large Buttocks-Derriere on a Pants Pattern

Well i love my big butt but i don't think this will be extreme enough. I want to sew my own tight pants because i'm fed up with fast fashion.

This annoys me too. The majority of clothes in stores seem to have been made for buttless women with beer guts. I have a big butt and narrow waist, I hate buying pants.

Won't the top of the pants come to a point (a little roof) at the centre back seam after this alteration? I can't find any tutorials on how to true this. Do you take it into the dart? What if you are making undarted pants, e.g. PJ pants? I'd love to know how to fix this. A video would be wonderful as I've asked a few people how to do it but have just gotten the answer to "true the seam" but no explanation of exactly how to do it. Obviously if I return that seam intersection to 90 degrees it will take out the length just added. I would so appreciate you demonstrating it because your pattern pieces are always so clear in your videos.

Sarah Turnbull - Yes, there will be a slight raised elevation to center back. The best thing to do is sew a test pair of pants, put them on, then tie an elastic around your waist, and see what if anything protrudes above the elastic. Whatever small amount that is above the elastic can be smoothed out (trued off) (cut away) that is not required for your back rise.

Yes, you need to adjust the grainline before cutting and you want to draw it from the bottom up.

You may have to alter the pattern to bring the curve inward.

I am not sure where I need to adjust my leggings pattern. When I made them they are great everywhere except in the front crotch area. In the front crotch area the stretch fabric pulls across and the leggings seem to pull down in that area. I do not know where to start to fix this problem. Could you recommend any adjustment i could make to my pattern please. I made the original pattern from a well fitting pair of leggings I already wear.

@alexiaworkman6273 - you have to do this adjustment in the paper pattern stage - you can't do it after the pants are sewn with the waistband on.

In that case you need to buy pants big enough to fit your butt and then have them altered to fit you comfortably. It is a pain. But no way around it.​@alexiaworkman6273
