After years of living with subpar hot water temperature in my showers due to the limit stop being adjusted too low, I got to making a video to show others how to adjust the hot water temperature in your shower. This video shows how to adjust it with the Temptrol Shower Faucet. I hope it helps so you can adjust your hot water temperature yourself and not have to call a plumber when you can do it yourself easily.

Thank you so much for this. Our plumber replaced the plunger but we didn’t have hot water and they didn’t understand when I called them back (and wanted to order more parts). Ends up it was an easy fix for even someone like me!

Is there any way to reduce the bypass water in a Symmons control. Even in a quick shower, we collect nearly two gallons of bypass water and I'd like to slow this rate down.

@@EricDIY The Symmons installation sheet says that a stream "about the diameter of a pencil" is normal when the shower is operating. Is this what you usually see?

@@HomerShannon You might have to change a washer out to stop the water from leaking as much. I had the same problem with the Symmons in my old house seeing that the prior homeowners didn't use the shower a lot and the rubber dried out. It would dribble out the bottom of the faceplate. It takes a special tool to take the valve out and then you replace the washer. I didn't take videos back then but I'm sure someone else has the video on KZbin.

Ot bad,, but there r dozens of brands with different adjustments ,,, heads up tape yr drainuse cardboard to protect shower base ,drop a tool could b ibnstalling new base ,,retired bath and kitchen remoldling 45 years,,,,,all in all u did help peps out 😊

@@EricDIY I desperately need your advice. Counterclockwise doesn't do anything. The shower does not exceed 108F or so, more like 105F. I want it to be 120F - the same as the heater. My kitchen sink hits 120F. What am I doing wrong?

I have a valve and parts in my plumbing spares and I studied it carefully today. I see how the diverter spindle works and I don't think it can be modifies. I just have to live with the bypass flow. I replaced every part but the body two years ago, so everything inside is nice and new. It's just how it works.

My old house had a cold water adjust valve near the cold water input to the hot water heater. You might want to see if yours has one and close it slightly until the mix is right

Can you elaborate on how I would go about doing this? I’ve tried adjusting the screw and it’s not really affecting the temp at all, I’m in an apt and my bath/shower is lukewarm at best.

Am I missing something? The Symmons Temptrol instructions say "To adjust remove dome cover, open valve to maximum desired temperature and turn in limit stop screw until it seats." Your video states that the turns of the stop screw IS the adjustment. It is not. It only limits the valve handle turning to the hot direction to the set maximum temperature to prevent dangerous hot temperatures from being reached. No disrespect intended.

It won't let you turn the handle any more than what the stop is set to. If you want to go further, you need to loosen the stop screw. If you just installed it, they leave the stop screw very loose so you can turn the handle to the hottest position you want and then tighten it once you have it there. If it has already been installed, you need to do what I show you to get the handle to turn more to make it hotter. You're reading from the initial install directions.

The instructions are correct from symmons. You never want to turn that screw clockwise as it will be pushing against the valve assembly. You want to have some breathing room between the end of the screw and the front of the mixer valve.
