Hi Adam. My first worn lathe was a great learning curve, a happy medium has to be reached on worn feed screws. Spot on Adam. Enjoyed watching. Tony

Thanks, yes it’s part of picking up any old machine

Thank you very much for the adjustment video and especially the separate demo lead screw and nut assembly, demonstrating what's happening "underneath." I'm off to my Harrison AA to tackle it right now!! Cheers

That's interesting. I owned that machine before, but tagged as clausing Colchester. I guess they're not all the same. On mine, the split nut has a spiral cut for about an inch, reducing or increasing the tension is how you adjust it. That wedge system looks a lot more positive. I always thought all these machines were identical, I wonder why they chose to do it differently

Some of it will depend on the age, mine is a 93 I believe but could be wrong on that

I'm here because my recent acquisition of a used sheldon lathe has about a turn and a half of play and a gap opens up by the dial! crazy. hopefully not for much longer.
@smalltownmachineshop6860 Жыл бұрын
That is a lot of play, I had a Sheldon a long time ago it was a very old one and the nut that held on the dial was another adjustment for slop in the cross slide

@@smalltownmachineshop6860 Good news, it was just the handle not being all the way on. The little hex lock kept it from feeling loose. Anyway simple fix and big improvement. Sounds like what you said. Also the screw nut seems to be cast iron.
@smalltownmachineshop6860 Жыл бұрын
@@rob12449 awesome that you got it fixed, and yes I have seen some cast iron ones but mostly on the older flat belt machines
@rob12449 Жыл бұрын
@@smalltownmachineshop6860 it is an old flat belt machine.

Sir, why did you use a Torx bit on an Allen bolt?
@smalltownmachineshop6860 Жыл бұрын
The bolt was kind of damaged, I ended up replacing it with a new one so the torx bit fit it better in its condition at the time
