this is a video showing you how to adjust the electronic brake on a technics sl 1210/1200 mark 2.
BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANYTHING UNPLUG THE TURNTABLE FROM THE MAINS!!!
PROBLEMS YOU MAY RUN INTO:
the platter my be seized on and you cant pull it off, the way to solve this isn't to pull it harder you will get nowhere insted take a small pice of wood or the handle of the screwdriver and GENTLY tap the centor spindle (the spikey bit in the middle) a few times and that should free it up, if not the plater should lift slighly even though its stuck lift it up and than tap the spindle.
don't hit the spindle to hard but dont be afraid to give it a good tap...

You have the 'rare' ability to synthesize complex information into segments that novices can understand. PLUS, you clearly have empathy and patience to keep pace with those that may not understand what is happening. Basically those are the qualities that amount to a great teacher. You are clearly highly knowledgeable when it comes to electronics, but honestly I think your real talent is teaching. All the best.

OK. I think I've watched all of the Technics 'repair' and 'how to' vids you've posted, and I want to just add my voice to the well justified growing list of 'Thank Yous'. Here's the thing though. I'm a teacher, my wife is a teacher. We've seen the good and the bad when it comes to getting information from one person to another. So just let me say that you have a genuine gift. Seriously.

This guy is good. Explains thoroughly. He also has the video for the stuck VTA knob. Of which I followed him when I did mine. Works great. Now I have to adjust my brake. A lot easier than height adjust knob.

Thank you so much for this and all of your other videos! I did replace the rca cables with new good ones by myself after watching your video on it, and I have very little to none soldering experience from before. And now this, my MK3D's stop right on spot now. Much love!

Alright James, just wanted to say thanks for your technics videos, although i dont currently need to do anything to mine, i've enjoyed watching your videos, and the way you explain in the simplest terms is a gift. I know when the time comes, i'll be able to follow your videos to a T. I just need some solder practice!

The hole in the platter is actually intended for adjusting the brake potentiometer without taking it apart. Letting the platter run in reverse won't damage the motor at all. The power involved in breaking is the biggest strain on the drive electronics and the 1210 is designed to do this.
@Tarabass
@Tarabass 4 жыл бұрын
I can conform it's not damaging the motor when letting the platter run in reverse. I calibrated this maybe 20 years ago, and my 1210's are still going strong. Thx for the video, viperfrank!

Ok dude. Really helpful. Got my pitch back to standard and adjusted the break too. I have the old style decks without the blue pot but works just the same. Amazing how simple these decks really are. Quite an invention this direct drive system when you think of it. No wonder a sl1200 is displayed in the london science museum.

excellent vid. With the plastic off you can get to the pot with the platter on for fine tuning through the platter holes. Also, I like to put an AVERAGE weight record on it to fine tune it a bit, much heavier ones will spin out a bit.

Hi, Make sure you adjust the potentiometer with the rubber mat,, the slipmat and a record on. Their weight adds up, so you need slightly more torque.

hi jayyyy13, i had something like that happen to mine a long while ago the sound limiter cut the power and when it came back on one of my decks wornt working it turned out to be a fuse... under the plastic cover under the platter the (bit i take off in this video) on the left hand side there are 2 fuses it was one of those,(might be the one in the plug too) that might be your issue if not it could be a component gone like a cap or resister, hope this helped, thanks for the comment. nice one!!!

Yo Mrjack141516, hows it going? If you didnt have the platter spinning when you spun it backwards i cant see that that could cause the brake to slop, but it seems to me that the technics electronic brake isnt actually consistant and sometimes doesn't always work perfectly. generally with the technics turntables you will adjust them and they will be tight for a while you will probably have to adjust them every 4 years or so, hope this helps try adjusting and let me know how it goes. nice one!

Hello how are you? Very good your video wanted to know if you can help me with a problem I understand a pair of mk2 1200 and I have the following problem, adjust the pitch to 2.7 k as the factory manual says, it is run in 1+ serious in the Del range Pitch in 2, +6 if it's good now, -1 gives me -2.5 -3. If I move the potentiometer of the launch that has to be in 2.7 it accommodates, but it continues the run in -, the complaint stopped factory, the probe removing the orange cable of the step is the same, removing the resistance r209 and it is the same , With The time code serves me to regulate because I look at the pc the range and it serves as a guide but I can not leave them orignals, I want that in -3.3 I have that value and not -5, that in -1 mar -1 no - 2, 5, when I put it in +1 it gives me 0.5 +, what do I have to do? Is there any way to accommodate this? And that they are of factory ?? I await your response many thanks

On my 1210 MK5, there is no need to take apart to access the brake adjustment dial. On mine, I just remove my slip mat and there is a open slot to access the brake adjustment control. Must me an upgrade.

Just a note for those who use the heavy rubber mat atop the platter, I found that the rotational weight of this mat will effect your brake adjustment if you don't incorporate it into your adjustment trial and error process.

Today, I learned how to say "motor" in British; "mo - ah". Thank you for the very informative video. I knew about the brake adjustment, but it turns out the potentiometer is broken. The top half of the rotatable pot was broken off. Do you or anyone else know a quick fix for this? Solder, I suppose?

The difference between a 1200 and the 1210 is1200 runs on120 volts and the 1210 has a switch under the platter to selects either 120 volts or 240 volts.

Hold it w/ your hand and w/ your other hand hit gently the motor axis (a little hammer would help) : it will release the platter. Don't hit to hard as it could damage the axis and/or the motor !
