Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I kzbin.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

Thank you!! I have an old ass Ruud furnace, which gives me yearly problems. This year was the fan limit switch and relay. The wire nut from the 120vac side of limit switch to relay came apart behind the 4x4 box, shorting against the relay and taking out the fan limit switch with it. I bought a new fan limit switch, relay, and had to so some rewiring in the furnace - but she is up and running again. This event also gave me time to run new 5 wire thermostat wire and put in a new WIFI thermostat unit while things were down. The old owner had a Honeywell wiresaver in the loop which kinda limited my fan operation. For $100 switch, $10 relay, $30 of 5-wire, and a $50 thermostat - I think I made out over what having a heating/cooling tech come do it.

These Honeywell fan and limit controls are the sturdiest, most dependable controls I’ve seen. They make a version that has a 24 volt heater, we used to call a sure start, to help bring on the fan, and keep it from short cycling. This type was mostly used on downflow and horizontal furnaces, because they were located on the furnace, where they didn’t sense accurate temperature until the fan started. These controls had 6 connections. Camstat made a plastic version that didn’t use the helix by metal, and they were much lower quality. They both came in different lengths

I reset the channel settings so it should work. Are you doing wood projects? If so, the heat exchanger could be plugged with burned sawdust. Only other possibility would be a negative pressure in the structure such as exhaust fans etc. GFM

It could be the attic temp. Gosh, I hate to set it higher than 150. The limit probably is set to 180 or 200 so that's pretty close. Are the turbine fans operated by wind? If so, a good idea would be to install a powered attic fan. You would also reduce cooling costs. Hope this helps. GFM

Dear GFM, I think we can use a digital thermostat no problem. Tommorow I have to do wiring on something like this. I will use the W and common from a digital thermostat, and connect it across gas valve . Then just wire the rest of it in the way we normally do with the fan limit switch. The thermostat digital or mechanical, just is a switch making gas valve work..

Watch the burners when they operate to see if they rollout. May take a couple of minutes. Painting is the worst for these furnaces as they draw air from inside the structure. You can try replacing the wires but be careful! GFM
@grayfurnaceman11 жыл бұрын
This one could be bad. Is it a GE vintage 1970s or early 1980s? The burned wires indicate probable flame rollout. This can be very dangerous. If you can send pics in a video response that could help. Let me know. GFM
@grayfurnaceman11 жыл бұрын
It would always be best to replace the fuse like for like. However, the fuse is generally matched to the wire size which would probably be #14 or 15 amps. To be safe I would not leave it with the 15. The rail burns are probably normal from the flame spreader. The short cycling is probably thermostat anticipator. Check out the "thermostat anticipator" in the search engine at the channel for instructions on how to adjust. GFM

Thanks for posting the video. My Lennox furnace is about 23 years old. Last maintenance service was done in 2012. The Honeywell Fan Limit Switch is set up at 100/150/200. I like to keep the furnace motor on all the time - to circulate the air around the house by setting the fan option on the house thermostat in the living room to ON rather than Auto (Note: the Limit Switch Unit button is still on AUTO rather than Manual). Can I adjust the 100/150 numbers so that the blower comes on early and keeps going longer even when the burner flames are no longer ignited. That way, I can put the fan option on the thermostat in the living room to AUTO option rather than ON all the time. Also, how long can a blower motor last if the furnace is properly maintained (regular filter change/motor lubrication etc)? So far the original motor is still running. Thanks for your help and advice in this matter.

akbaxb165 don't overlook the blower run capacitor. The value changes little by little as they age... eventually the windings are so out of balance that the insulation can cook or boil of lubricant from sleeve bearings. The run cap is used to create an artificial 2nd phase with voltage shifted at 180°. The value must match precisely the windings.

Hi! My replacement combo fan limit switch has no LIMITERS. My old one limited the high dial to 175-degrees. But I can put my new switch dials, left (lowest of the three), middle and right (highest), anywhere from 50-250. I set the dials as close as I could to the old settings-100, 140, 175. You said it’s best to set the low at 100 👍, but is there a danger to setting the high to high? I won’t do anything different until I hear back from you.

Some of these switches have an electric heater built into the switch. If the heater is burned out it will short cycle. It should be located at the center of the black portion of the switch with 2 wires mounted there. I will do a video about that as soon as I find one. very helpful video in understanding this type of limit switch.... I have watched both videos about how the limit switch works and how to adjust it, but it still doesnt answer the question I have.... the oil burner heater in my shop keeps shutting OFF because the fan isnt coming on soon enough (if I rotate the switch just slightly by hand so the "on" peg passes the mark, the fan comes on and the burner remains running (or if I turn the fan on with the "manual" switch the burner remains running)...... after lowering the "on" peg, it still doesnt reach the on position before the burner reaches the temp at which is shuts off by default (then the reset button needs to be held in for it to retry to start the burner).... I have had furnace techs here to tune up the furnace, and after it gets started and running, it works flawlessly, but NOT until the fan comes on, and so they seem to always miss fixing the problem... what could be the cause of the unit "timing out" because the fan doesnt come on sooner, as it should?... currently, the "on" peg is set about the halfway mark in the slot and the "off" peg is about 3 marks lower (almost at the end of the slot) what would be a better or modern type of switch to use in place of this one?.... thank you

@@grayfurnaceman what is happening exactly is, when it is cold and the furnace is turned on, the pump and combustion blower will run about 20 seconds before ignition. it ignites quickly and will then run and heat up the combustion chamber.... after it heats up (about 90 seconds or so), the blower fan fails to come on in time to keep the combustion chamber from overheating, and so the burner will be shut off... (apparently by a signal from the overheat thermostat withing the combustion chamber?)..... when I manually start the blower fan about 20-30 seconds after the burner ignites, it will run flawlessly (burner and blower fan will cycle on and off as the shop temperature demands) the rest of the day... this only happens when its cold on the first start up of the day...

This looks exactly like the thermostat to the wood furnace I am using in the house I am renting. The settings are at 110 degrees and 150 degrees. The fan is continuous starting at 75 degrees in the house and only shuts off after the wood turns to embers. The house temperature usually reaches 90 degrees, but the wood burns quickly (even with damper shut) within an hour or two. I have not been able to sleep through night because the wood (2/3 - 3/4) full will burn up within 3-4 hours. I attempted to move the pointers to 100 and 130 but they would not budge. Please advise!
@grayfurnaceman10 жыл бұрын
***** The setting is not the problem. Once the furnace is loaded, the fan will be on until fire is essentially out. The problem you are seeing is endemic to wood heat. All I can tell you is the wood species does make a difference for holding fire for long periods. Depending on where you live, red fir is a fire holding wood. Also hickory will hold a fire. Hope this helps. GFM

It seems my fan & limit switch is working, but I was having that issue where it was cycling on and off about 3 times before staying on late last winter, so while getting my furnace fired up today for the fall season, we tweaked the dial, and now the fan won't kick on at all. Can it be coincidence that the fan died right then and there? The fan motor is relatively new; only 1 and a half winters. The fan & limit switch is on it's 7th winter. I have it off at about 100, and on at about 150.

Also, the fan did work once today, when everything was initially fired up, but it did that on/off thing so that is when we tweaked it. Now no fan. :(

Our Lennox Pulse G14 only runs properly when the thermostat setting is on "FAN" AND NOT ON "AUTO." (When set on "AUTO," the fan usually does not come on.) Is it okay to run it with the thermostat set on "FAN" all the time? Could this be due to a bad thermostat, or bad Fan Limit Control Switch ? THANK YOU

Thank you for the video with great informations, I have an old Lennox G8-105-1 and couldn't find any schematic or manual online, hope you can help. After installed a new Fan limit controllers, my furnace will not starts but when I pull manual fan switch the fan will comes on, this does show I have power from the breaker panel. The old fan controller was working before, just the button was broken so I went replaced with a new unit. I did remove the jumper from the new unit to copy the same unit; I took apart the old unit and there is no jumper. Anyhow, the pilot light stays on but the thermostat set to high temp will not trigger the furnace to come on. I do have the Nest thermostat which states I have NO voltage power to the thermostat since I can't find any schematic out there I wonder if you have any great suggestions? Thank you so much.

Hello Furnaceman, Can I ask you a couple quick questions? Scenario - Furnace was working fine, but very noisy. I took it apart to clean it. Found half a bearing on one side so replaced them, vacuumed, jigalooed everything, put a new belt. 1. Tabs are in same spot, but the 'ON' tab started malfunctioning, as in it hits it turns on, but when the dial starts going back the other way it clicks off immediately from hitting the 'ON' tab again. Is that a sign of a faulty switch?? 2. The ones you work on in your videos don't have a manual/auto button, that I can see, which mine does. If that tab breaks and comes out is there anyway to fix it? or bypass it and just leave it on auto? (I think there is no connection with the button gone so auto doesn't work, just manual when I jam the broken button back in.) Thanks, any help is very appreciated.

First, the manual switch should be pulled out during normal operation. Then it should run with the furnace. Is there a jumper in the switch? Should be a copper bar between the 2 lower terminals. If so, remove it. His furnace was set up with the fan switch and limit in the high voltage. Yours was set up with the fan in high voltage and the limit in low voltage, so the jumper must be removed. By the way, with it the way you have it, you probably have 120v at the thermostat! Hope this helps. GFM

Set it this way and there still is a lot of heat left in the exchanger, doesn't run long enough to let the humidifier do it's job. Set the off pointer lower and it short cycles.
@grayfurnaceman7 жыл бұрын
That sounds backwards. Short cycling comes either when the pointers are too close together or the off setting is too high leaving enough heat left in the heat exchanger to heat the fan element enough to start it again. As for too short a cycle to let the humidifier do its job, there are several possibilities here. Oversized furnace, anticipator set for too short of cycles, thermostat location too close to diffuser. You can also try setting the fan on continuous. That will assist the humidifier somewhat depending on the type of humidifier. GFM
