I have a 4000 psi 3.5 gpm gas power washer per spec sheet. The unit has a 389cc Honda motor. Do you have to run the throttle on max while using gas power washers? What if you run it half? Does where you position the throttle correlate with the performance or pressure of the water coming out of the lance. Seems like one would be refueling quite often if it's running full throttle. What should the typical running time be of a gas pressure washer that holds 1.61 gallons. Much thanks for all I've been learning. Just not finding anything on throttle settings..
@Powerwash Жыл бұрын
It is normally best to run it at full throttle to match the performance of the pump. You can adjust pressure with the throttle but it can potentially hurt the motor over time. Most motors are designed for full performance.

What if you need to adjust the pressure for a surface cleaner attachment? I have a 3800 PSI / 3.6 GPM washer. Most surface cleaners are rated around 3200-3400 PSI. Wouldn't the unloader be my only choice here? Or do I need to hunt for and purchase a rotating head with a higher rating?
@DanielFarnan8 жыл бұрын
You can swap the tips in the surface cleaner for slightly larger tips. If you had two tips that are size 2.0 (at 25 degree spray pattern) that would give you a combined 4.0 size orifice which relates to 3500psi at 3.5 gpm. Usually size 2.0 is the smallest i can find. You'll just need to check that 3.5-3.6 gpm is enough flow rate for the surface cleaner you have.

@Powerwash7 күн бұрын
To address using a surface cleaner with your power washer, you can follow these key guidelines from the video: *Pressure Adjustment:* Adjust the pressure by changing the nozzle size, not by modifying the unloader, to avoid wear or damage. *Nozzle Size:* Use the nozzle chart to determine the correct size based on your target PSI and GPM. *Test for Desired Pressure:* Start with an estimated nozzle size and adjust incrementally until reaching the ideal pressure. Surface cleaners generally need consistent pressure for optimal results.

Where does the unloader divert water to? I don't see any connection between my unloader and the inlet of my pressure washer. I am a bit confused to be honest. I have a used NorthStar 2000 psi 110 volt unit with a Cat pump. I picked it up for free from work, as they were under the assumption that it no longer worked. It definitely works. I'm not sure how much pressure it's putting out, but I seem to be getting a very slight drip, drip, drip from the thermal protection valve. There is no tube hooked up to that valve, either.
@wjackstl8 жыл бұрын
the unloader was most likely diverted to a water tank, to cool the water, because the water heats up so quickly while in bypass, usually because of the restricted length of pipe, hence routing the bypass pipe to a tank - more area for water to cool. obviously heat is always the enemy of mechanical parts nice find btw, cat pumps are awesome and so is there customer service
@DanielFarnan8 жыл бұрын
You probably have an internal unloader bypass connection. You'll find it at the end of the pressure washer underneath where you attach the pressure hose. It diverts high pressure back into the lower pressure input hose and circulates without over building pressure. You just have to be careful how long you leave the trigger closed and putting the unit into bypass because it will build up heat and cause premature seal failure. With your type of pressure washer the unloader is integrated into the head of the pump.
@Guillotines_For_Globalists8 жыл бұрын

The video and the manual state the same thing. An unloader is a protection device and is to be set to kick into bypass when the pressure is built up to a level that is the limit of the pressure washer. So a 4.0 gpm 4000psi needs to have an unloader set to 4000psi so when the trigger is closed on the gun and the pressure builds up the machine will go into bypass and not continue to build pressure in the pressure hose. So you shouldn't adjust your unloader down to kick into bypass at a lower pressure because it will constantly run in half bypass mode and wear out and break which could damage the pressure washer or the operator by bursting a hose.

I don't understand then why manufacturers attach an adjustment knob to it? If you're not supposed to turn it, what is the point?
@OdinsCloud4 жыл бұрын
@@cybernessful You can make MINOR adjustments with it. Also since there is variability in engine performance, pump to pump, pulley or gearing the unloader is adjustable to place the system in to spec for your pump.

Cat pumps.. lol. Yea they are decent, But giant pumps are the absolute best. I’ve got a Giant P4130 which was manufactured in 1996...I use it a couple times a week..usually run 200 gallons, maybe 300-400 on each job.. and my pump has never been serviced.. the only thing I have changed is the motor maybe a couple times... in 26 years... the pump is the best on the planet

Are you saying that white tips are different sizes?
@OdinsCloud4 жыл бұрын
No different angles 40º for white I believe. on the nozzle shaft there should be am engraved number and that is the size of the nozzles orifice against some standard of which I do not know. Anyway it will say 2.4, 4.0, 4.5 5.0 etc... a 40º nozzle or a 15º nozzle of the same orifice should yield the same pressure.

In your previous video kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3S9nKNppKeqf8k ; you spoke about pressure spikes and calibrating your unloader so that the spike doesn't exceed 400 psi when you release the trigger. In this video when you're using the smaller nozzles your pressure spike is a few thousand PSI due to the how much the nozzle reduces the outgoing pressure. Isn't this bad for the machine? or is there something I'm missing?
@Powerwash2 жыл бұрын
The nozzle is actually larger and it is not bad because the spike is not going over the set spike pressure.

The size of a pressure washer is really just the amount of gallons per minute of water it puts out at 4000 psi.

Well...that depends on how you look at it. For a constant flow rate, a larger orifice yields a lower output pressure. For a constant pressure, a larger orifice yields larger flow rate and conversely a smaller orifice yields a smaller flow rate. BTW, I just watched the video and found it very informative and helpful. Thanks.

Just don't be enticed with the cheap price of Simpson 4400 psi; there's a reason the Simpson 4400 psi is cheaper than the Simpson 4200 psi, and that is because Simpson 4200 has a Honda engine and the Simpson 4400 does not. Honda engines are much better quality and last longer; Simpson engines can have starting issues also. Make sure to use 3/4" hose for water supply. Don't undersell yourself either; you're not charging enough. Very low bids can even make potential customers not take you seriously; you may also find yourself a rushing through jobs and cutting corners in order to make it worth your while, which will hurt your reputation in the long run. Give a nice fair price, take your time and do an excellent job, and referrals will start coming in from your previous customers. Good luck!

Why do most power washer mfrs. mislead by putting big adjustment knobs on the unloader & calling them regulators? And come with one-size-fits-all nozzles with NO mention in the manual that others are available that can be a better match?
@Powerwash7 жыл бұрын
The big nobs are there to adjust the unloader but it is common to misinterpret the intent. The are not there to adjust the pressure. Having one nozzle size reduces confusion.

Hmm, my CAT pump manual states this "UNLOADER TYPE: An integral unloader with built-in by-pass is part of the discharge manifold to provide system pressure regulation and pump protection." So who is right, CAT or this video?
