Here's an easier way to do it. Take a kitchen fork. Put it on the flat metal end of the shade, the same that he showed you, so that the flat metal piece is between the tines of the fork. Hold it tight. And then turn the fork clockwise until you feel a tightening. Just be careful that you don't tighten it too much or hold the fork too loosely because it can spring back on you once you tighten it. But that's a sure, easy way of tightening it and it's the old school way. It's the way I did it growing up ( I am 68) when all the shades were the spring type shades.

Thanks for this comment! Saved me a lot of time. But to everyone else, hold your forks tight. I loosened my grip just a litttle bit and it got catapulted across the room😅

Thank you.. I just bought new roller shades and have been struggling to get the tension.. They are long shades of 70 plus inches and it's quite the curl work out to roll them up over and over.. But enjoy them very much.. love the clean look that roller shades add to my window decor. large windows and i love the view that they offer over other blinds.
@themed-tours13423 жыл бұрын
Great. Thank mate.. you get a thumbs up. The only thing to add is that the spring latch didn't hold position when I first fitted the flat end (into the middle part of the bracket - with the flat horizonal). But, when I re-fitted the flat end with the flat surface vertical (in the upper side of the bracket) - the latch started working. Maybe it had nothing to do with it working or not - maybe I just accidentally gave it a little jolt. So - all good - just sharing my experience.

i'm glad the video helped you. Yes, the biggest thing which makes the shade spring become loose is the bracket. Sometimes that bracket gets bent out of shape and the flat end of the shade spins inside the bracket rather than tighten the spring. Or sometimes it's just not sitting inside the groove properly.

@mazerwholesale2 жыл бұрын
In order to tighten a totally unwound spring is to hold the shade parallel to the floor. It will not wind up if you hold it vertically. You can also put the shade into the brackets as shown in the video. If it doesn't tighten up, the spring is broken and you must replace it.
@grandpagun2843 Жыл бұрын

Thanks so much! Wouldn't allow me to give another thumbs up, as I viewed it last year when I had an issue, and came back here to check your video out again! I ended up pulling our shade all the way down, and it won't go up, so I assume the tension has gone out completely, so I'll pull the shade, and see if this works. Hoping it's just that, as it was working just fine, then all of a sudden it wouldn't go up at all, which then had me at no more to pull senerio!

Thanks for the video! I have a quick question- In my case, I am having those vertical slat blinds and I have 2 issues and would greatly appreciate your response! (1) In my living room window blinds, only 1 out of the total 9 blinds move when I pull the rope attachment. The remaining 8 blinds just stop moving along with the first one after 2 seconds of pulling my rope attachment so there is this huge gap created when I close the blind and sunlight comes right in.What to do about it? (2) For my bedroom window blinds, i ma having the same issue but in this case 4 out of 9 blinds move after pulling the rope attachment. The remaining 5 just won’t move at all after a while so it creates a wide gap and sunlight comes right in. How to solve this issue? Thanks ahead of time for your response🙏

My roller is too tight. The shade won’t roll up or down. How do I loosen the tension in the roller? Hoping its not a defect.
@mazerwholesale4 жыл бұрын
I just responded to someone else in the same situation: Take the shade out of the bracket and, with a pair of pliers, try to turn the flat end of the shade roller (the spring side) clockwise-tightening it ever more. It will probably release the tension completely and then you can start to retighten the spring again gradually to the tension that's right for you. If that doesn't work, the shade spring is probably broken. If the shade fabric is good and you want to reuse it instead of buying another shade, call around to some old fashioned hardware stores and see if they have any shade rollers to sell you. We used to install folks' old shade onto new (used) rollers in our old hardware store. Attached the fabric with staples and/or glue.

Thank you for watching my video. The plastic disc is not really a disc. It's a plug. When I was little I remember we had paper shades. Later we got plastic or vinyl. I am 65 yrs old. I just received my new shades today and even with rerolling and using a fork on the spring end to tighten and still no luck . Any ideas? Best Wishes

Ideally didn’t want to laugh at your predicament, but of course I did. I have just thrown my blind to the corner of the living room ...

Does this work if the roller shades won’t go up at all? And fall done completely?
