The diaphragm is the main muscle you breathe with.
The position of the diaphragm can affect posture and even back pain.
Engaging the external obliques and then breathing in with the diaphragm is a great way to properly align the diaphragm.
This can help with certain types of low back pain, especially lumbar spine shear

These are very similar to “vacuum seal” breathing exercises, which are also incredibly beneficial. 👍🏻

Just wanted to say thank you for this video. I had a brain injury a couple years ago, and I didn’t realize that this was part of my injury until recently. I must have had more damage other than the head when I fell, and I’m just learning about the psoas and the diaphragm. So, it seems as though I’ve come across it at the perfect time. 🤛🏻

Hi, I have Athsma and am trying to get off the steroid inhalers, I think a weak diagram is the cause of the asthma and doing what you said seems to help open my airways. Is a weak diaphragm commonly confused with asthma? I also have a spondy / pars defect on my L4, do you think weak breathing muscles could have impacted the strength of my back and contributed to this happening?

Thanks for that video, it confirms impressions that I had ! Do you have any recommandation for doing that while at the same time keeping the ribs wide? I feel like when realigning it closes my plexus or ribs too much.

Sir the muscle in the legs is connected to the inhaling to down the diapram?
@DrJeffreyOGuinSaintLouis

the pelvic floor muscles (in the deep hip/pelvis) and the diaphragm work together to create something called intra abdominal pressure. Maybe that's what you're thinking of.

The right side of my DIAPHRAM is not functioning. The nerve in my neck/arm is impinging upon it; I do believe. I cannot take in deep breaths right now. I will see my chiropractor about it.

I am wondering if i have hurt my diaphram by running. My URQ is sore and the ribs in my back and side are painful. I did a diaphragm release which helped a bit. Sitting makes things worse as does twisting. When I walk my back/ribs are pretty painful but seem to feel better after a mile or so. Sometimes breathing is painful particularly if I've been sitting or driving. Laughing can also be painful but not always. the lowest ribs and waistline are tender but not painful.

Hello Anne, I wish that I could help but it sounds like an exam would be best for you to really find out what is going on.
