We have orange clay soil. Good old GA. The contractors take off the topsoil and sell it when they build. 20 years later my garden thrives but our lawn is getting full of mushrooms and moss, and our oak trees have grey patches all over their trunks. I am working with your products now for our lawn. Love my organic garden!

I am planning a lawn renovation, but do have poor nutrients and generally clay/compacted soil. I have been debating back and forth how to help amend the soil prior to the new seed going down. Generic topsoil/compost from the local yard is one option but this seems like a well thought out product to use as well. I may give the Blend a go! Looks like it packs nutrients and in general all healthy stuff for the soil.

Yes, Blend would work great for your new seeded lawn. I would prepare the area and apply the seed. Then, apply our Blend at about 20lbs per 1,000sqft over the top of the seed. Then apply a very thin layer (1/8") of the local compost you reference over the Blend and seed. Keep the seeds moist when the sun is out with frequent quick waterings and you'll get great results.

Yes, these techniques work for overseeding existing lawns- check out our Spring overseeding video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWe6Ynuhachknas). Aeration is to mitigate and eradicate thatch built up from dead and decaying plant/organic matter. If you have a thatch layer, then I do recommend aeration. However, aeration isn't a panacea and doesn't do much if you don't have a thatch layer inhibiting exchange of air and water. If you commit to an ongoing protocol described in this video, you won't need to ever aerate again, because your soil life will constantly break down the dead and decaying plant matter that forms thatch.

An Imix the three products myself to make blend or just throw down the same amount of each on top of topsoil before I seed?

You can mix 1part Optimize, 2parts Nourish Biosol, 3parts Maximize and apply it right over the top of the new seed. Or, you can buy our pre-mixed "Blend", which is those products already mixed using those proportions. Always apply our products after applying the seed, because they improve germination rates and speed.

Hi! I was told I need to amend my soil before laying new sod down because it is compacted clayish soil. What is the best process? I’m a newbie but want to take care of the new sod.

If your new sod area has very hard compacted soil, I would try to rip, till or dig up the area to physically loosen it improving the exchange of air and water. If compaction isn't a concern, I would just rake and level it as smooth and even as possible. After the physical preparation is complete, apply about 20lbs per 1,000sqft of our Blend (proportional mixture of our Optimize, Nourish Biosol, Maximize) and lay the sod right on top of the Blend. If you still have concerns about the density of your soil, apply (spray) our Penetrate Liquid Biotiller right over the new sod and then begin a watering regimen to keep the new sod appropriately moist as it roots. Then, 2 months after apply Blend again over the new sod and then every 4-6 months topically apply our Nourish Biosol at 10lbs per 1,000sqft. Results will be excellent if proper amounts of water are applied. Hope that helps :) Please reach out if you have any questions arise along the way!

I've been planting spring bulbs in the lawn. As I do, I've been adding leftover gardening mix. I hope that's good enough for now. Now that the bulbs are in, would penetrate and the dry products help the bulbs too, or kill them?

Optimize, Maximize, Nourish Biosol and Penetrate Liquid Biotiller would never kill anything. These products are great for all plants and soil - including Spring bulbs in lawn (which is a neat idea!).

I have just moved into a new build house in England. The soil is very clay and I am going to put grass seed down. I have dug it over then tried my best to break up the lumps of clay into smaller pieces with a spade. But it is still in chunks. I have some sandy top soil to go on top but I'm worried that underneath the layer of sandy soil there will be lots of air pockets. Should I be worried?

Don't be worried, instead check out our recent video in which we explore important reasons to avoid interfaces: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZPElYaOfpqhl9k . When you add your "Sandy top soil" try to do it in a way that there is a transition between the lousy clay and and the lovely "Sandy top soil". Don't just slap the top soil on top of the clay. Instead try your best to break up the clay at the point of contact with the topsoil and then try to mix the two together if at all possible. In your situation as you've described, no reason to worry about air pockets :)

Yes, after you use top soil, apply the seed, then our products and then a very thin wood based mulch/compost layer. Then, water appropriately to keep the seeds moist.

I see Chip hanging about but is it ok for animals to hang around during this process? When I use herbicides some of them say I can’t let my cats out for two weeks so I take the precautions much to their protest.

Our products are quite unique and safe. We believe these are the type of products everyone should be using around our homes. Chip or I could eat the products without any detrimental health impacts. Perfectly safe for cats/dogs to use the garden right after applying all our products. Equally important is our stuff is really effective!

It's possible to have good germination without covering the seed, but covering the seed is a good practice. We cover that topic thoroughly in this Sunday's new video (3/7/21) about overseeding. I like to use a fine organic matter like Kellogg's Amend rather than hay. Hay will work, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

I feel like your lawn doesn't have clay! My lawn seems about 10 inches deep clay and it's always making a 'bubbling' noise

"Bubbling" is not good. The soil in our video does have quite a bit of clay, but I've never heard it "bubble". For problem soils like you're describing I focus on trying very hard to maintain appropriate moisture levels, while constantly making organic, soil life building inputs like our Penetrate Liquid Biotiller, our 'Blend' and lots of either our Nourish Biosol or our Value Rich. Products like earth worm castings are also good. We want to infuse your clay with life and that life will dramatically improve clay over time.
