Anchoring sucks without a anchor buoy I haven’t pulled an anchors from bottom in 20 years Don’t listen to people theorising watch the professionals who are pulling anchor all day every day 100. % use this method If you don’t tie off to back of boat wait and see what happens when you get hooked up and slow down

A great solution to a long chain is just a heavy iron or lead hunk on the chain about 5 ft from the anchor. The only reason for chain is weight.

I liked the enthusiasm a lot especially when I found out he actually knows what he's on about, I use this method ecept i tie my anchor line to my painter (my bow rope) and I like to use as little rope as possible so that when the current or the wind changes it doesn't take me to far away from where I was catching fish I use 15meters of 6mm chain on a 5meter glass boat it let's me Anchor in 50meters water with only 70mrts rope out plus chain plow anchor..never moves even with 15knot wind ect

I was always told "Never pull the anchor from a stern cleat, if the anchor snags you end up anchored stern on and can get swamped".
@Radswa_Chikinora
@Radswa_Chikinora 6 жыл бұрын
Particularly important if the weather suddenly turns. The Anchor holds the stern down and a wave can come over and flood the boat.... however in good Conditions, it's rather convenient
@fiveowaf454
@fiveowaf454 6 жыл бұрын
I've seen a boat sink for that very issue. The motor failed in a strong current, the anchor was thrown over the stern and when caught in a mooring chain the transom dipped down and the sea came over the stern and the boat sank in seconds. Admittedly, it had a very shallow transom, but when he talked about an anchor on the stern, that incident from over 40 years ago came to mind. I think it can be done safely in the right conditions, boat and with someone who's watching the weather etc. It made me nervous the speed he was going with the recovery too, I thought what if the anchor is hooked in something and tries to stop you at 20 mph.

Fiveo waf his method may work in the right conditions, but not all conditions. He should have explained that so a new boater doesn’t get the impression this is how it’s done. The Niagara River has about a 13 knot current on a calm day. Try that there and you’ll be swimming before you can utter an oh shit.
@fiveowaf454
@fiveowaf454 6 жыл бұрын
It's definitely not a panacea for all types of water, conditions and boats, definitely not for a 13 knot current, that must be a challenge to anchoring and retrieving at any time.

Neat concept. Totally un-usable in a raft-up situation as you would hook everyone around you. But very cool if you're solo or as you say, in a 100m (328ft) of water; but you would have needed a 1K feet of line (as I don't call it rope) for that to make sense (as that's deep). Either way, thanks for the pro-tip.

The concept of the buoyancy of the float moving down the anchor line increasing the pull angle will still work in small areas of water under 20m In 5 m tighten up rope with float at back of boat and drive away Try it Lots of pros use 20 lt plastic drums you buy oil in

@@BrisbaneYamaha Oh, yes. I know. I call them anchor balls or retrievers. I just don't use them at 35 knots and punish them like it's a poor fish hooked in the wake. The anchor buoy doesnt pull up on the anchor and cause it to come loose?
@Martian74
@Martian74 Жыл бұрын
No, because it is loose and floating on top of the water. You have to get the boat moving to make it sink and then it will put pressure on the anchor and lift it out of the water straight up and then follow the boat.

@Martian74
@Martian74 Жыл бұрын
Using an anchor winch only works on larger boats and larger boats have other issues, like getting them out of the water at the end of the day. Even bigger boats can't leave the water so they need to be docked which brings other issues. Just learn to anchor safely and you won't need an anchor winch, although he can sell you one if you need it.

You def do not need as much chain as the length of your boat. It depends on the size of the chain and anchor
@BrisbaneYamaha

But he’s not offshore, he’s using a reef anchor in the sand in 15’ of water with a 80’ scope, but the tutorial attempts to imply that this procedure will work on a sand bottom in 100’ of water, not with that anchor it won’t. I’m confused. In calmer bathtub water you can side anchor at any depth, but be very careful to not stern or side anchor in a fast current rougher conditions at any depth.

1. You're tying off your anchor to the side of your boat. Seriously??? The reason your boat has an anchor well and tie off point at the front of your boat is so when your boat drifts it will turn into the current and the water will go around your boat and it will not tip to the side, particularly in the chop. 2. You pull your anchor completely out of the water for multiple reasons other than safety. BEFORE MAKING WAY. You are making way with the anchor in the water potentially snagged on an unknown which you wouldnt know because it's "still in the water". 3. You are towing your anchor behind your boat, I don't even know where to start with how dangerous that is not only for the people on board your boat but other users of the water ways aswell. ie. boaters, pwc's, divers etc. 4. I would like to see anywhere in any boating safety guide that would allow such bad practice on the water ways. 5. When boating and using any water way there is duty of care to marine life and the other users of these water ways. do EVERYONE a favor and give up your hobby of boating before you do some serious damage. And no I am not an American although I don't see what that would have to do with anything as anyone with common sense and a skipper's ticket would know that you're insane. I strongly advise you remove this video before you cause some damage to someone, something or your business.

@BrisbaneYamaha
@BrisbaneYamaha 4 жыл бұрын
I’m taking trailer boats or you’ve never had an anchor stuck on bottom and the rope gets so tight that when you slow down or try and turn to release pressure the rope pulls bow violently and in big seas that’s bloody frightening By tying off stern the press is on a very strong cleats and you can turn easier to release pressure Your probably thinking you can pull stern under but that just doesn’t happen before rope breaks Rope size is important too for many reasons in deep water then you have hundreds of metres out breaking off is expensive and not ideal having rope left in water In small boats with lite weight anchor in shallow water on sand I often just drive off with out tying off at all
