An interesting (and important) tip: Because a woman's pelvis is shaped slightly different than a man's, a woman tends to place her feet under her center of gravity rather than shifting her center of gravity over her feet like a man tends to do. If a man and woman walk through the snow, generally speaking, the width of the mans foot prints (side to side) will be almost as wide as his hips, where a woman's foot prints will be nearly in line from one to the next. This technique of female walking is even more pronounced when a woman wears high heels as a result of her taking more effort to maintain balance when shifting her weight to her forward foot. Again; this is due to the gender differences in rotational geometry of the hip joint. It's what gives a man a "swagger" in his walk, and more of a "Swivel Hip" in a woman's walk. Where Mr. Camporota shifts the man's upper body over the feet, to animate a female you should shift the feet inward towards the center line - not all the way, but nearly - THEN make up the difference with a much less emphasized body shift. In an I.K. rigged model this will give the woman's hips a natural "swivel". Just a detail: the "passing" foot in a female walk swings outward just enough to clear the contact foot.

@bentraje5 жыл бұрын
On 11:26 , you mentioned that animators have this mistake of rotating the hips up, rather than downward, when foot is lifted for passing position. The thing is the hips do both in that instance. It rotates upward when it's lifting, then rotates downward when it's about to step down. The catch is it either happens a frame or two. So it's a bit negligible. My basis on this is observing motion capture. If you have a counter observation, I'm all ears. Thanks for the video. Regards, Ben
@gavindell668210 ай бұрын
Animating pose to pose is a much better way than straight ahead. You should pose both of the stride positions first with the entire body and arms involved. Then grab the root and do the down and up passing pose positions on the root only about 3 frames apart. The arms and chest will inbetween themselves if posed correctly. Then do the feet like this shows. The root comes first and your main walk stride poses with atitude. Then polish the arms and side to side balance and the curves in the graph editor.

This was very helpful I agree with another comment about hip lateral rotation stuff. I always make that mistake starting on walks. Thank you oh can I suggest a video how do you animate shakey hands/arms showing anger or struggling. Like the hulk roaring or powering up without looking poppy/jittery. Basically how to show body mechanics of weight pushing something heavy etc. Hope this makes sense thanks again for banging out great stuff.

hi there! Amazing tutorial! Althought ive always wanting to ask whats the best no.of keyframes we should use...like in this video you've used 24, but is it 60 or 30 or 24 for general game characters anim because games run on 60 fps wouldnt that be an issue if animation done in 24 keyframes?
@chloeelimam5 жыл бұрын
I think you could probably just scale it. So in 24 fps the main poses are happening every 3 frames, in 60 fps the main poses are happening every 7.5 frames, because the action is still taking 1 second, there are just more frames squished into a second. C D P U C D P U C 0 3 6 9 12 15 18 21 24 0 7.5 15 22.5 30 37.5 45 52.5 60

Thanks so much! I'm a newbie in the field, only been animating in a studio for 2 years... but I've never had a formal education in anim. I really want to get into feature film... but I need to attend formal education(online probably) to get even close to that level. However, I'm afraid to join a course and fall behind others.. maybe it's an irrational fear. Not sure. But thanks a lot! I'll work through some of your tutorials and see if that helps me enough to the point that i'm more comfortable and speedier in the process :>! As for tutorial suggestions; perhaps a tutorial on character weight/balance? And how about having a character walk in one direction; and then turn around to walk in the other direction?
