Go to elements and search for a square. You can actually type in the square too. I don’t always do that cause it’s easier to adjust the sizing if it’s a square element and a text element. To put the square behind the text right click and select layer and move it back.

When it comes to simple I would animation I like Canva. There are tricks you can do to make it look more 2d like adding effects to text. When it comes to actual animation I would suggest learning after effects. It has a longer learning curve but you’ll be able to do more.
