This was such a great tutorial! Once the edges of the bald cap was melted away it looked so smooth and seamless! I have done special effects in the past and was only used to using latex caps but I hated the way they didn't completely blend into the skin and would have to use latex. I didn't realise vinyl caps were this good, I need to try it . Thankyou!

Ahhh it looks SO seamless and lifelike. My assistant is in school for special fx makeup and I've been a model for her in class a few times. I have developed such an appreciation for this type of artistry, it is so tedious....but the results can be so magical! You're so talented Shonagh!

So, can a fine lace wig be attached to the bald head after everything is dry? Or should you not use the stippled stuff on the areas where the lace wig will be applied with glue?

This is probably a crazy question, but can the bald cap be worn continuously for several days? A week? (I'm a wannabe author, and my hero is going to be interacting with the bad guys for several days, and they mustn't recognize him as the good guy. But the story requires that he goes back to looking like himself when he finally gets out of the bad guys' lair, so shaving his head is not so good.)

Is there a way you could attach a wig to the back half of this style of bald cap? The edges look beautiful but I would worry about tearing the vinyl with a heavy piece attached like a wig

It's quite sturdy material, it's only the edges that are thin. If you glue the edges and also an inch-worth of skin underneath there's no reason for it spilt. If the wig is super heavy and long it'll pull and stretch the cap so you would need to make sure it's on quite tight or you'll find there's rippling at the nape of the neck. It's all down to trial and error really, I'd say try not to use a really heavy wig that's long. For example, if it's an old age makeup where you're creating a balding appearance and you need to attach a small wig at the back as if he's gone bald on top then that should be fine.

You can certainly try. Sharp hairs have a tendency to pierce through vinyl so it would need to be really short in order not to do this, if it’s long at all then you’ll just see it through the vinyl and it’ll look bumpy. You also need a clear trench of skin around the beard to secure the vinyl to your skin.

What if you don’t have an undercut and your hair is also medium and not short, so your hair in the back covers your neck?

Cover it all in a gel, and swirl it around the crown of your head until it’s as flat as possible. And if necessary, pin it, just make sure they’re under the hair so they don’t pierce the cap.

You could use spirit gum, but it doesn't have the same hold that pros aide has.

You just use pros-aide glue remover or Pro Clean and it literally takes less than 7 minutes to be fully clean!

There are different versions of flesh tone. Anything other than transparent vinyl is classed as flesh tone. You can get deeper flesh tones too.
