Step 5 in the video states, "Re-apply Ipe Oil 1 to 2 times each year". We would like to clarify that the Ipe Oil can states that it only needs to be re-applied once a year. In most applications, Ipe Oil will only need to be applied once every 1 to 2 years for preferred natural hardwood coloration. It is likely you would not need to apply it twice in one year unless you desire or believe it to be necessary.

The can says "wait 10-20 minutes and then wipe off." The video says "wait 30-45 minutes prior to wiping off." This is a significant difference.

Is it safe to throw away a used Ipe oil rag or roller? Thanks

Here are the recommendations from Deck Wise: Do not leave rags in a pile, they will self-combust or catch fire. Rags, brushes, rollers, steel wool or waste soaked with Ipe Oil™ Hardwood Deck Finish may also spontaneously catch fire if improperly discarded. Immediately after each use, place waste materials in a sealed, water-filled metal container. Dispose of empty cans or unused portion in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.

I have an IPE wood deck that is covered by a Bioclimatic patio cover. The deck only looks good up to 5 months after the oil is applied. I used your brand. Water stain still appear after rains. After one year the deck does not look good. To get the water stains out I end up sanding the deck with an 80 grit. I have used the companies cleaner and brighter and that did not help with the water stains. To be honest if I were to do it all over again I would go with something like a Trex deck. It is a real pain to keep oiling this deck every year. If you want it to look real nice than you need to do it twice a year. The oil in a gallon can is expensive too. What got me angry was that I get water stains. Rain water is not like hard tap water so why am I getting water stains on an IPE oil deck?

We checked in with DeckWise: The product lifespan you're experiencing is typical for any penetrating oil. Regarding the spots, rainwater does contains nitrogen plus whatever airborne materials it retains as it falls toward the ground; no product totally prohibits spotting when water containing certain chemicals lands on the wood. (A sprinkler system spraying water on the deck's surface can have the same effect, especially if it's treated water.) They did note that neither Cleaner nor Brightener are designed to address water spotting: The Cleaner cleans ground-in dirt and stains and the Brightener removes the grey tannin oil from within the wood and restores the PH balance before penetrating oil or a water-based treatment is applied. DeckWise recommended considering a 120-grit sandpaper to retain the thickness of your wood. Can you use it on cedar wood ✌️

Ipe oil works with all Brazilian hardwoods and American hardwood products. Deckwise does not recommend use with soft woods, except Cedar decking. DeckWise Ipe Oil is compatible with softwood Cedar, however, it may require more than one coat.
