There are some hospitals that want observers to go back to their home country and don't offer LOR. Others do... When you apply, you should check for those. Would this gap make my CV look bad if I apply for Ortho resident after taking a pre-lim surgery position? Would scoring high in step 2 make up for it? The reasons for my delay were changes in NMC guidelines for FMGs & I had to undergo a knee surgery too, would these be valid reasons if I were to apply for competitive specialties/programs?

Dr. Rachana, i understand your point. The hospitals will not give you a letter for your visa. This is because we all get too many requests for observers. As much as we love to have everyone it is not feasible. Here is what you should do. Apply for observer ship and once accepted, you can use that to increase your success on B1/B2. The other option is you can present a paper at a conference and you can use that acceptance letter for your visa. All the hospitals in the video will give you observership in all specialties! Dr. Rajeev I don't think these links are personally researched by you. The very first link takes you to the CHOP's website where it's clearly stated that CHOP observerships MUST NOT be used to gain experience for US residency programs, and that NO LORs will be provided to anyone
