Some people apply their SSN together with their AOS Packet (AOS Adjustment Of Status Packet include form I-485. This is the form to apply for a green card after married on K1 Visa). But, some other got their SSN when they enter the USA, it means before they get married yet. In my case, I applied for SSN card 3 weeks once I entered the USA then get married after a few weeks later. So it depends on what you prefer. I hope this info will help. in my case, I already had my SSN card before I submitted my I-485 packet. And yes it took about 2 weeks to get it in mail. If you already applied for a SSN, better to wait until you get it. this is my personal opinion.

Honestly, I am not sure which one is better. But, in my case, I applied for the SSN before the AOS. In my case the AOS process could get long. After I received my Green Card I went to the Social Security office and changed my last name.

@@Dini3385 through my experience, I used my passport name which is my birthday name in the first I applied for SSN card, then after getting my Green Card I came to the Social Security Administration Office nearby to adjust my name to my marriage name.

Untuk SSN bisa diajukan sebelum menikah dengan menghubungi kantor SSA office terdekat. Untuk Passport, saya masih pakai passport yg lama (nama yg belum pakai nama suami) jadi kemungkinan 2 bulan sebelum expired akan diperpanjang dengan menambahkan nama suami. jadi kalau mau keluar negeri nanti kalau terbang ke state lain, book ticket pesawat sesuai nama di passport, YANG PENTING : di airport bawa Green Card dan Passport. 2 documents itu penting.
