Hello Shintaro! Please make more content like this. Most judo instructors I've seen only teach how to do the throws but not how to set up and get to them. Throws are just the final little piece of the puzzle when it comes to a judo match. I want to know more about how I should be gripping, how I should be moving my feet, how to make my opponent bite on my feints, etc.

Off rip I can tell you two things. 1. Use your entire body for kuzushi, not just your arms. Think about it. You’re essentially trying to throw a grown ass man/woman by their jacket who assuming weighs at least the same amount as you do. So trying to throw someone by off balancing them using only your arms will require a lot of strength on your part, which will wear on your arms over time. I noticed huge improvement in my Judo when I started pulling people off balance using my entire body and not just my arms. Engage your knees, hips, shoulders, arms, and back when applying kuzushi. 2. Use combinations. In most cases your first attack is going to fail, and that’s okay even in high level Judo. You are rarely going to hit a throw, let a clean one at that, on someone who’s athletic and can grapple worth a damn on the first try. The thing is tho, don’t just half ass the first attack and then commit to the second attack. Use your first attack with intent to throw but be prepared to follow up with a second attack should the first attack not work. Focus on combinations that if done correctly, your first attack should leave them in a vulnerable position that will increase the chances of your second attack being successful. Sasae Tsurikomi Ashi --> Osoto Gari, Kouchi Gari --> Morote Seoi Nage, etc I’d start with those two. Hope i helped.

@@AusarisTV yeah, that's mostly why Judo people will always get strikers to the ground. The striker are never ready for a throw combination. Tbh, i don't understand why this is not done more in BJJ and some other grappling styles, it's just an effective way of throwing/taking down an inexperienced opponent, they just can't figure out what to do.

@@jestfullgremblim8002 I grew up boxing and I kinda disagree with that statement about Judoka “almost always” getting strikers to the ground. Boxing, while as two dimensional as it is and not as dynamic as other striking arts, places a large emphasis on footwork and ring/positional awareness. Most if not all pure Judoka who have no cross training in striking tend to have extremely terrible footwork, and no head movement and aren’t defensively sound. Plus all of my boxing coaches were counter punchers so maybe I look at things differently but a Judoka isn’t going to just simply walk a striker down who has good footwork. That’s a very good way to get punched in the face. Boxers have trouble closing the distance on each other all the time, and these are people who diligently train offensive and defensive footwork. The best chance the average Judoka has at beating a striker is being patient and picking when to blitz. Not impossible, but not as easy as many people would think. Most attacks in Judo require you to be on one leg at completion of the throw, so guys who come from Muay Thai, Sanda, Kyokushin Karate, and Kickboxing backgrounds are going to throw leg kicks from hell. Bruised calf muscles and thighs take away the throwing power from the Judoka if their legs are too beat up. And while leg kicks can be easily countered with punches, I doubt any pure Judoka has the reflexes to throw counter straight punches down the pipe after taking leg kicks. And with this current generation of Judoka who no long train leg grabs do to the madness that is the IJF, I wouldn’t bank on them catching leg kicks either. Again, I trained in many martial arts over my years (I guess you can say I’m pretty much an MMA guy at this point) so I have a different perspective on things, but in my personal experience, I’ve easily and consistently whooped other Judo players (but also inexperienced strikers) in MMA class because I understand the strengths and weaknesses of Judo. But of course I think if a Judoka becomes more well rounded, they’ll definitely be a force to be reckoned with. I still think Judo is heavily underutilized in MMA but it’s slowly starting to pick up.

@@AusarisTV alright you kind of have a point but pls note that when i talked about Judokas taking strikers down, i didn't mean that they could just walk up to them and get a grip. I rather meant that once they get their grips, the striker is almost definitely going down, you didn't get Harai Goshi'd? Boom! O Uchi Gari! If you look at the few times that Judokas fought other styles, you'll see what i mean. Anyways, remember how BJJ and Wrestling moves are also included in Judo, so a Judoka can also Double Leg a boxer that has no experience in grappling/doesn't know how to sprawl lol. It has been shown many times how BJJ people will just tackle some good strikers (that donc5 have grappling) with a double leg and thus winning the fight, and i don't see why a Judoka wouldn't be able to do this too! And about the attacks needing you to be on one leg, that's only a problem with Uchi Mata and Harai Goshi, because even with a lot of leg pain, you can still reap their legs just fine, you are wrong and right at the same time when saying that most Judo techniques on one leg (because when you trip them/reap their legs, you arw indeed standing on one leg) but that's for just a momment and as you are also gripping your opponent, you can put your weight on them, so yeah, that only applies to Harai and Uchi Mata... About their footwork, i will again refer to Judo cross matches, even when we do not do cross sparring, we instinctively know how to handle ourselvea, Judo is basically like Aikido, it was developed to use your opponent's momentum and attacks against them, so a Judoka will mostly wait for a kick or over commited punch to do their thing, and i know that boxers will not do either of those but in that case, i've seen that the Judoka will simply get just out of range and then cover their head and kind of run to their opponent, which doesn't sound practical, but like i said, once they we get those grips you guys are usually done.

@@AusarisTV and no, no i'm not talking about Olympic Judo. I hate even bringing it up Btw: i also practiced many martial arts! My first Judo teacher was actually a Jujutsu teacher that rebranded to Judo to get more income, he still taught his Jujutsu stuff, so i always (he didn't teach them to me until i wasn't that young tho) knew how to strike and how to deal with strikes, hence i'm very biased to Judo, it's just that it was taught to me in a very effective way. I did train in Kendo, and some chinese martial arts like Bajiquan and Baguazhang. I loved both of them (i still think that they are superior to styles like Muay Thai, it's just that they don't spar and don't condition themselves luke Muay Thai people do), i did some boxing and then i did Capoeira for like a week lmao. I was getting into Muay Thai but then all this Covid stuff happened. Even tho i didn't formally practice martial arts like Taekwondo and Kyokushi Karate, i can still mimick their moves and know the way they train. I hope to formally do some Silat or Kali, i have many friends that did those and it's so fun sparring them, those arts seem awesome. Bajiquan and Bagua deserve better tbh...
