That was brilliant He used the gloss medium to lay down the gold leaf ,then he allowed it to dry and brush off the excess gold leaf which are on the spots where there is no gloss medium. . Only where there was gloss medium and gold leaf layed on top would stick which is the red part. Thank you sir, for this quick tutorial 👍

That's a great idea DJ Freezy-John! I like the red sticking out on some of the edges and unlike most of the other artists I've watched using gold-leaf, using gloves and tweezers, your non-chalant DJ Freezy-Easy style of application makes what always seem like such a pedantic and daunting task, look like a DJ Freezy-Breazy adventure. It's easy to be nonchalant when your gold leaf is fake an d easy to replace. When you're using real gold leaf can't afford to waste even a speck. A lot of work using real gold leaf is in the restoration of real historical paintings and frames or furniture of high value so you're going to take a lot of extra steps, care, and precautions. People that work with real gold leaf tend to be at the top of their profession, and have a very specific skill set and in depth knowledge base and experience that requires precision and highly detailed techniques. When you're working with real gold leaf, you're not playing around. It's easy to be nonchalant when you're working with gold colored foil on your own work, and any mistakes can be considered artistic expression. There's a huge difference in showing others how "they do something" versus how to do something the "proper way".

Love this John. Do you use the red as a base just to cover the white canvas first? Or does it have an effect with the gold leaf

I didn’t catch what medium you put on the red paint for the gold to adhere to? The same product you put on the black and white areas or something different?

The gold around the tree is so beautiful. Is there a reason you choose the color red. I'm going to try the gold leaf . I bought one of the Milan paint supply kit that has gold leaf in it. Super inspiring. Your paintings and style are so cool and unique. Thank you for sharing your love of art.
