Hey Peter, missed you! Great seeing you back enjoying your shop . I especially like the rounded corners on the one tray. Nice touch!

Hi Gary, Those rounded corners were done to repair a bish-up. One corner of the top bit of maple trim had a chip and had to be sanded down to a very thin layer on top of the mahogany. So I mitred the four corners, produced some triangular section pieces of maple and glued them under the now very thin top layer. I suppose I should have said it was an artistic idea but really just a repair job ! Cheers. Peter

Thanks for this Peter. May I ask how many coats you are applying please, particularly on the dining table? I must say I've only used Osmo a couple of times (once on a dining table) but got rather frustrated with the drying times. I followed Osmo's instrutions rather than this method of yours. I absolutely love Odies Oil for the drying time (what drying time) particularly as I have a limited amount of space, so sacrificing it to the drying process can be difficult.

Hi Stewart, On the dining table I put on 3 coats using the method shown in this video and then a fourth coat which was slightly thicker. New to me is 2K Osmo which is mentioned by JimPudar. It looks brilliant but I have not tried it at all. Cheers. Peter

I'm using those 1euro/pound/dollar a stack super cheap sponges that have the green scotchbright at the back. They usually come in a stack of ~8. About the cheapest ones you can find. They work fantastic for me, the scotchbright at the back is useful too for a 2nd/3rd coat to smooth out some woodgrain that stood up etc. Cheap and cheerful as you say, must have gone through 100's of em by now :).

Are your friends at Axminister ever going to produce a written manual for the PARF Protractor?
@NewBritWorkshop10 күн бұрын
The protractor is very easy to use. The simple instructions are available via either the Axminster video or my video shown on this page: www.axminstertools.com/ujk-parf-protractor-112023

I'm confused Peter. You and Axminster call the 910348 pad non abrasive but in the first sentence of the description Axminster says, " A non-woven web of nylon fibres on which selected aluminium oxide or silicon carbide grains are firmly bonded by resin". In the specifications it is described as ,"Abrasive Material Aluminium Oxide, Silicon Carbide."

Hi George, I think that there must be some form of bish-up here. If in doubt do a Google search for the white non abrasive pads. Apart from the ones sold by Axminster 3M do it as well. Cheers. EDIT: I have just looked at the other pads that Axminster do and they seem to have cut and pasted the description across the whole range. I use their stuff and it is fine - I will let them know. Peter

Hey Peter, have you tried the 2K Osmo? I find it to be far better in every way than the PolyX. Applies the same way, you just need a measuring cup to mix it before applying. It also is a “true” single coat application, whereas like you I always had to build multiple thin layers of PolyX

Hi Jim, That is news to me - I will see where I can buy it from and test it out very soon. Cheers. Peter

@@NewBritWorkshop best of luck! I just used it on a 20’ long hard maple countertop for a cafe. After the single coat cured for three days, we left a few tablespoons of water on top to dry overnight and all that was left was the minerals in the water! The finish and more importantly the wood itself did not appear to get damaged. I am very, very impressed with the 2K version.

Osmo worked as advertised for me, but I didn't know that it had a significant smell which lasted for about a week before I could bring it inside the home.
@NewBritWorkshop10 күн бұрын
Yes, there is a slight odour but it does disappear quite quickly. Cheers. Peter
