I’m a complete amateur noob to carpentry with rudimentary knowledge. The last time I did anything with wood was at secondary school for my GCSE’s. I chose woodwork / carpentry as my elective and designed and built a jewellery box, fixed together using dovetails. IIRC I think I got a B for it. 22 years later and watching other people showcase their skills on KZbin is inspiring me to buy tools and a workbench, and just start experimenting and building things for my home in my spare time, and try to improve my skills in general. Watching people showcase their skills on KZbin really is inspiring and I can’t explain why but I find watching these videos for hours on end incredibly relaxing.

I spent 3 1/2 year making nothing but fancy 'coffee table boxes' out of exotics - in dovetails. I lived and breathed dovetails! It's nice to watch someone else do the magic. A very sharp European saw - 15 tpi - with no set, worked best, for me. An excellent design and a minimum of 'spinning tools' sells best!

I really enjoy doing hand cut dovetails. The work is slow, precise, and contemplative in the making, and tremendously beautiful in the finished product. Using 'spinning tools' to the minimum is great, even preferably not at all (when I have the time).

I am actually going to attempt this piece. You are very talented and the wood you used is absolutely stunning. Did you make that dovetail jig? To the majority of people the tools you used are not basic. I was most impressed with the sawing of the box straight through and the hidden joint is simply amazing!!!!
