For anyone asking how he synced TR8 with the songs, Traktor has a unique feature that allows you to send MIDI clock either via classic 5 pin or via USB and also offset the clock so it perfectly matches the grid of the tracks. The discussion about the Allen & Heath V6 mixer is spot on. It is the greatest mixer Allen & Heath ever engineered. I am not one for rotary mixers. However, without question, it is the warmest mixer I've ever heard. The Xone-92, Xone-96, or Model-1 do not even come close to the warmth of the V6. The V6 has been discounted for some time. They now run up to $20,000 on the used market.

Liam, is it safe even though the TR 8S has more functions therefore being less tidy than using a TR 8 for performance, that it is still quite excellent for performance and ultimately not “menu divey” ? Seems like here for Mateo’s purpose and intention that he doesn’t need to get the 8S, but with that said the TS seems to still be quite a great performance tool, unless I’m missing something. Lastly, much respect to Mateo Murphy and yourself for getting him on here. He’s quite a prolific artist. I’ve know of his music since his earliest releases and it’s very cool to see him on here and still rockin!

I would say that it's more or less just as tidey if you've got your settings dialed in to begin with. I also think that it's worth the extra price because it has soooo many other great features that the TR-8 doesn't have.

I need to hear this side by side with the Xone 96. At the end of the day they are both insanely powerful mixers built by Allen & Heath, but I tend toward the 96 for hybrid setups. It completely removes the need for an external soundcard compared to this. Particularly when you are a Traktor guy, this is a massive deal... And while the EQ section of the Model 1 is more creative and expressive, its not THAT much more so than the 96. Especially with the crunch and resonance circuitry on the 96 filters, and 4 band EQ. And the 96 has a dedicated master instert bus for compression etc at the same time as techincally being able to run an insane amount of FX sends at one time if you get creative with switching between analogue & digital busses. You can literally run 2 outboard pedals, 2 busses that send to a DAW like ableton to use FX there over USB, and then run 2 further dedicated analogue parallel chains for distortion and compression to blend with the masterbus. Or any one of hundreds of combinations therewithin. It's a ridiculously powerful design, with the way they have incorporated 2 soundcards into one machine along with a serious analogue matrix. The soundcards are fully studio quality too, as opposed to the trash Pioneer use. And finally, you get channel faders and an innofader crossfader that feel like a proper DJ mixer for the 4 main channels... Far better for DJing than these horrid things on the Model 1 (and admittedly the return channels on the Xone). Those things are generally found on cheap, small format mixers from Mackie etc. Overall though, I just can't imagine it sounds THAT much better to justify the price compared to the insane functionality you get with a Xone 96 for less money. On YT at least, they both sound beautiful, and equally so as far as I can tell. So in almost every other respect, the 96 leaves the Model's in the dust tbh.

The "CUE B" output can only be accessed via the DSUB-in from the mixer. Since he has a DSUB input on his modular (via the nw2s::io), he's able to pull that CUE B and process it. He then routes it through distortion and a filter and then back out to CHANNEL 2 on the Model 1.4 Some notes about CUE B: 1. It's not an exclusive cue, so you can enable multiple channels for CUE B if you want. 2. You only have a global send control (via the level pot on CUE B), rather than channel-level sends (like SEND1 and SEND2) 3. You can't do pre-fade 4. You don't have a return channel, so you have to route it back to one of the existing channels or returns. However, you can sub-mix down your returns (like in your modular) so you can have like RETURN 1 and CUE B's return submixed down into one channel before it hits the mixer

What was that about 8 outs from tr8s? Yeah, but its for tr8ss sounds and 1 stereo for master right? So it cant be compared with this nrilliant mixer. Sorry, but few times you said nonsenses in this video.
@LiamKillen5 ай бұрын
Hmm I can't remember exactly what I said and the context, I for sure was not comparing the 8S to the Model 1.4 if that's what you're suggesting here. What I did say is that the 8S is a perfect combination along with the model 1.4 because it has 8 outs (not necesarily got the 8S sounds, because you can use it as an audio interface as well), and the 1.4 has 4 stereo ins - so it's a perfect fit in this case. Hope that clears things up.

TR8 is a drum machine, tr8s is a mixture of synth, rompler and drum machine, many class A electronic artists use TR8, over TR8s( Carl Cox, Kink, etc) just because it's WYSIWYG tool, no menu diving, savings and loadings. TR8 wins with tr8s as a drum machine on every level as it is much better suite for live performance, programming live and tweaking without clicking too many buttons combinations. I had a privilege working with few drum machines, particularly AKAI MPC, from MPC60, through 3000, 3000LE, 4000, and 2500 in last years, and I found TR8 best drum suited for me, for performing music live. Or just for quickly making music, when in the studio, as I need less than 3 min to program sophisticated drum loop with percussions (and tuning bongos takes 80% of that 3 min:). Good luck with TR8s to be as instant and fast....

If you know deeply your samples and patterns the tr8s is a studio workhorse and a better live performing machine. As easy to use first instinct and fun the tr8 wins, i miss the scattering now. I owned both but I cannot change my tr8s with anything else now, when you know every deep secret of it you will be fast in a few years

I wish you had discussed syncing. this is really the only reason I clicked on this video. I don't care about the TR-8 or using Cue-B as an additional aux when a "live" mixer with multiple aux sends is probably what you want, etc...
@mateomurphy11 ай бұрын
Traktor generates MIDI clock, which is sent out from the audio interface and into the TR8. As for the mixer choice, I don't know of any "live" mixers that have high/low pass filters and stereo aux sends!
