Well that was great fun, Kaity! And thank you to Jack, Bree and Kai ( I sure hope I'm spelling their names correctly 🙂) When you were looking at the goldfish tank with the plastic plants I got to thinking that all aquascapes, no matter how natural looking they are, are still contrived. Each one is its own work of art. No two are ever alike. And as you said with the goldfish tank - looking at it makes you happy. And that's what it's all about. That's what keeps me coming back and looking at and building tanks. They make me happy. And then when the inhabitants are added and the tanks come to life, there's a whole new level of joy brought out. When I sit in front of one of my tanks and the fish do something and I catch my self smiling . . . well that's what it's all about! Have a great trip back to the States, Kaity! ~Ron

Really cool video, there's some awesome aquascapes there! Do you have a favourite aquascape you saw? Looks like you've got the bug for aquascaping now, will you be entering any of their aquascaping competitions 😀 The giant gourami are really cool too, they seem really friendly especially as you can hand feed them! I wrote one of my uni assignments on how you can farm giant gourami and what setup you'd use for that. Its essentially the same as the RAS systems you can farm tilapia with, but at a lower stocking density! Was really interesting to research!
@Kaityscichlids7 ай бұрын
Thank you!! I think my favourite would have to be the Iwagumi scape at the front with the cardinal tetras and HC Cuba. I love how to looks like a hill, and that the fish stand out. And that is very cool! I didn't know people farm giant gouramis :O
@the88tench37 ай бұрын
@@Kaityscichlids That's really cool, definitely is a really nice aquascape! Like the idea of building a Windows XP hill screensaver style aquascape too. You could even go further with it and put the aquarium on a stand that looks like an old PC case, and make the frame of the aquarium look like an old CRT monitor 🤣🤣 It certainly is very interesting! They're farmed for food a lot in places like South East Asia, usually in ponds but our assignment was to design a RAS system for them. There's lots of things like multi-trophic aquaculture done there as well where multiple different food sources are grown together in the same system! It's a really interesting type of fish farming!
@Kaityscichlids7 ай бұрын
@@the88tench3 that would be very very cool! I hope someone does it 🤣 or maybe I will one day lol. And how interesting, you learn something new every day
@the88tench37 ай бұрын
@@Kaityscichlids you could probably go one further and connect up a raspberry pi or something to the electrics so the Windows XP startup/shutdown sounds play when the lights turn on/off 😂 Aquaculture is such a rabbit hole to go down! If you wanted to try some multi-trophic aquaculture a go, you could always try setting up an aquaponics setup with one of your aquariums! If you also do a UK trip, I'd also definitely recommend a visit to Sparsholt college and their fish department which is where I graduated from almost 6 years ago now! They usually have an open day in May where you can see the aquatics centre with freshwater and marine aquariums one side, commercial carp, catfish and tilapia systems on the other side of the building and an indoor koi pond to walk over in the entrance! There's a salmonid building and lake on site too, plus other things like an on site zoo, farm animals and other outdoor land based stuff!
@Kaityscichlids7 ай бұрын
@@the88tench3 omg, thank you so much for the recommendation, that sounds amazing!! And I am definitely interested in aquaponics, it's one of those things I have in the back of my mind that I'd like to set up when I (fingers crossed) get my own property and have some acreage one day 😁

Why don’t they do any of these things in Melbourne? Arrrrgh so frustrating! I guess because there are not really any big decent aquariums here. When I was a child, my family owned an aquarium shop, called hi-tide aquarium, and we had a pet giant gourami too, his name was Charlie. I remember feeding him frozen peas. It was a huge shop we had, but my father, being the terrible business owner he was, lost the shop after a couple of years. I also remember having a fish room in our house at the same time, and my much older brother bred fish for the shop in there. One day I sneaked in, because my brother said to never go in there, and it was eerily dark, I stood on a big fish, that obviously had jumped out of a tank, and I freaked out, never going in that room again 😂 Here I am 40 years later, with 5 aquariums in my home.
@Kaityscichlids7 ай бұрын
Omg!! 🤣 Thank you for sharing your story, that's so funny! (except the losing the shop part haha). Of course you would be unlucky enough to step on a fish after being told not to go in there lol. It's great you are still in the hobby after all of that though!
