Thanks for posting this. My pool liner developed a leak during winter, and then the side blew in during our recent wind storms. I'll need to basically take it down, clean all the sand out of the channel and start over in order to get the side back down in the groove properly. This video was helpful.

I did sand for 2 reasons, first I needed to get the height, second it helps level the ground. You can skip the sand if your dirt is perfect. If it’s not, the foam will deform to match the ground.

Excellent video! 1 question for you: The bottom rail the pool wall sits in my set up is plastic and 1" tall. Could I run 2" foam boards all the way under the wall rail and to extend past the outside edge of the support pavers? I am thinking I can cut out the sections where the paver supports would be and level them out with the foam board. I am concerned if I cut the 2" foam boards like you did (within the pool wall) I won't be able to lay the foam cove up against the rail and will be left with a gap.
@JaredsShop
@JaredsShop Жыл бұрын
It would probably work ok, but let me give you a couple other options. First, before setting the wall, I set my foam inside with just the bottom rail and cut it all when everything was easy to lift and handle. Second, will you be using the angled sticky foam at the bottom of the wall? If so, that will help hide gaps so it doesn’t have to be perfect. I know mine isn’t perfect.

I was considering using foam board as well, but I was actually going to put some sand over it and sweep it to fill in any cracks or cruise and also just to have a layer of sand over it, what are your thoughts on this?
@JaredsShop
@JaredsShop Жыл бұрын
It would probably fill the cracks well. The issue with sand is it moves under the liner. Eventually, it will feel bumpy by people walking in it. Now that would only apply to you depending on the thickness of the sand. I wouldn’t go thick otherwise you might as well just use sand as it’s cheaper.

I am at the stage to round the bottom rail of our 27' above ground pool I have measured the radius to the inside of the bottom rail, the slot for the wall and the outside of the rail. The radius on the inside is 13'4", at the slot is 13"4-1/2" and the outside is 13'5". The radius should be 13'6" for a 27' pool, should it not? If so, when I try 13'6", the rail segments are a long way away from the small tab in the rail connectors. Also, when I laid the bottom plate blocks, I placed them so the rail will cross the midpoint of the block, at 13'6" but the rail is way out of centre to the point of sitting on a few blocks right at the edge. I also laid 3 evenly spaced bricks in the gap between each bottom plate. I can easily adjust the bricks but the rail will not be centred at 13'6". Will it be a problem to use 13'4" or 5" in stead of 13'6"? I just received my mason sand and want to get it laid and levelled ASAP. Any help would be appreciated.
@JaredsShop
@JaredsShop 11 ай бұрын
I would not be concerned about 13’ 4” or 5”. Your bottom rail sections don’t need to be touching, but they shouldn’t be too far apart either. I also would worry about hitting the center of your blocks. As long as they are on a good solid base, you’ll be fine. Their purpose is just to help keep the posts from sinking and spreading out the force a bit.

Thank you for the feedback! A drain in the bottom? No I did not. I briefly considered it but I wasn’t sure I needed or wanted one. Even though they are the norm for in-ground pools, they’re not very common in above ground pools, at least not around me. It didn’t have one when it was assembled at the neighbors and I wasn’t sure how it would hold up during the winter. The pool itself freezes over at top and we drain it below the skimmer and return while leaving those open to allow water to drain. I was afraid the pipe may freeze and crack and wasn’t sure how to prevent that. Does the pool you’re assembling have a drain in it? Where are you located?

Are the legs on paver stones? If not, it will be easier to scoot. You’ll have to drain it and then the pool will slide fairly easily until you get it round. Then start filling it again. You won’t be able to round it when it’s full.

im replacing the liner in my 24' round above ground, im confident in my ability todo this, Do you have any tips or advise? i watched your video when you disassembled a pool that you had bought from a neighbor and i was very impress at how easy you made it look
@JaredsShop
@JaredsShop Жыл бұрын
If you’re just replacing a liner, you’re already far ahead as your pad is in place, the wall is set, etc. Start by taking the top caps and seats off. Then you can remove the metal plates and liner channel tops one at a time to drop the old liner in. Put the channel back on the top to keep the wall in shape, otherwise it’ll collapse in. You may need to use a metal plate here and there as well to keep it against the posts. Then, do any raking or smoothing that is needed prior to installing the new liner. Make sure you set it out in the sun so it’ll be warm and pliable. Start at one area and remove the channel, put the liner up over the wall, and put the channel back on. Just like removing, this is necessary to keep the wall from buckling. Once you are all done, fasten everything in place. Put a shop vacuum on the return jet to provide suction on the backside of the liner and start smoothing it out. I used water, but this method is a bit easier.

@JaredsShop
@JaredsShop Жыл бұрын
I’m thinking it was 3-4 hours. I spoke with a pool installer and he said you can’t water the sand enough. You have to think about it like a beach. When you walk in dry sand it will move under your feet but when you walk on sand that the water keeps coming over, it’s very hard.
@tonyfrattaroli7371
@tonyfrattaroli7371 Жыл бұрын
@@JaredsShop Lawn roller pushes rocks down and starts the compaction process. In your case, with foam boards, roller probably not necessary. Anyone using just sand 90% of installs, you would need to use a roller or trial regardless of how much water is applied. Another option to foam boards would be .5 inch happy bottom. One advantage is the bottom is padding feels great but unfortunately most installers use thin wall foam which you can’t feel. Disadvantage is the good stuff is $250 a roll. Shop vac behind the liner before the garden hose eliminates the need to push wrinkles. out. Definitely speeds up the process. Anyways your pool looks great / likely better than most of the “pros” in the pittsburgh area.

It’s the opposite. You want the sun out so the liner is being warmed up so it will stretch. If you fill it when the sun is down and the liner is cool, it can’t stretch and you can collapse a wall as it will be pulled down under the weight of the water.

Yep!! Helps to keep the wall clean, especially at the pool line.

Foam cove will compress over time. Foam floor will hold moisture under the pool, and cause the wall to rust.

I’ve seen cove base installed after a decade and still not compressed. New cove often goes in with every liner, but not always. I wouldn’t install a pool without cove. It’s much better for the liner, pool cleaning, the wall channel, etc. No reason not to use it. Walls rust due to all types of issues but I haven’t seen one rust out at the bottom due to foam. Foam is a good bit of work and isn’t for everyone. My pool floor is much flatter than a sand floor though.
