Sir I just did this as my robot vacuum is dead for ever. And the replacement (vidapool) is a total piece of garbage. My pool was becoming unsightly and I was upset I couldn’t get it cleaned up well. Your video has not only cleaned my pool for me, but has taught me a better and honestly more cost effective method to getting it clean. I had to do it a couple of times, but afterwards with some shock and balancing of the ph levels. I am proud to report my pool is crystal clear and the kids are loving this 100+ midwestern day. Thank you kindly. Anyone wondering…do this exactly as he said, or flipping works miracles

Oh my God, THANK YOU, because of this video you saved us from draining and refilling our 6k gallon pool, we used clarifier, chlorine, algaecide, our pool was a SOLID green, than we tried pool Flocculant, and overnight ALL algae dropped to bottom like a green pool carpet, our robot just threw all the algae back up, did flocculant again, and tried your idea, the hole near the hose seemed to be way to slow (the way yours was) I took a plastic Tupperware bowl, drilled a hole the size of the hose end, used electrical tape to seal it, and drilled 2 holes near the bottom to created vacuum from bottom up, worked great, was able to do my entire green blanket pool in about 2 hours, thank you a million times!

After you do your first siphone, clean the filter, run it and and if you can angle the water in one direction do it. Also if you can go to the pool or swirl the water do it as well so that the next day, most of the left over will be on one area. Easier to clean.

It’s dead algae, I see nothing floating and I rinse out my filter every couple of days. Thanks for the heads up.
@diymanual Жыл бұрын
@@suzannerwt Yes. I mean, as you vacuum, some of the dead algae will get disturbed and get mixed back into the water . So, as they are floating in the water, you can turn the filter on so it can grab some of the floating ones before they settle back into the floor.

This works! My issue more than algae was dead leaf bits and debris settling at the bottom of pool that the net cannot pick up. Or moves around and feels like you are making a difference. Then settles again and again I used an inch and a half pool hose with zip tied to the extension handle and 908gr size becel butter container. I had my doubts, but was proven wrong. It works! I am so glad I don't have to use the sand filter to vacuum pool any more. The sand would get it the pool, ugh. The bigger hose has great suction but soaked up a lot of water. THANK YOU for posting. Sorry, I was on a camping trip and no cell signal. You can add a flocculant like this ( amzn.to/3MeJ5aG ). Hope this helps.

I like this idea. Those water jet pool vacuums can be modified to do a similar thing though. Last year I attached a pool hose to the output portion of one of those with duct tape and created a siphon and used the vacuum that way and without the water hose connected. It worked great and the bristles of the brush would disturb the particulates on the bottom just enough for them to loosen up and go into the siphon
@diymanual7 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing. That is a nice trick and since the jet pool vacuum can be attached into the pole directly, you don't need to tape the hose into the pole anymore. Now I need to look for my old Jet vacuum and modify it so it's easier to install and remove the hose and the pole.

Does it matter what size container you use?
@diymanual Жыл бұрын
@@danitatutt7845 The largest I used is an 8 oz. cool whip container. I think the larger and taller container will have less suction and will waste more water. You want the water to get sucked into the hose right away so you can keep moving.
@jenniferwilliams26768 ай бұрын
Hi, do you have any tips to get the suction to start working? Thank you
@diymanual8 ай бұрын
Sure. 1. Make sure that you are using a heavy duty hose so there is no kink that will stop or restrict the suction. Light duty or flex hose will never work on this. Use at least a medium duty or heavy duty hose. 2. Make sure there is no air gap inside the hose. You can do by lifting the suction end of the hose up and watch the water come out. Once water is flowing freely for at least 30 seconds put it back into the pool and throw the other end to the floor. Make sure that the hose in your pool is always higher than the end where the water flows out. So if the floor of your pool is the same height as the other end of the hose, you will have a hard time keeping continuous flow. You can use a taller container so that you know that the end in the pool is a few inches higher than the other end or extend your hose until you can move it into a lower spot. 3. If you are close to a tap water outlet, you can use it to fill the hose with water. I do this a lot since when draining water from the pool cover after a rain. Hope this helps.
@jenniferwilliams26768 ай бұрын
@@diymanual I figured it last night but it was late so I was able to get a bunch out today but the water got cloudy so I guess I'll be back at it tomorrow after work 😃 thank you though it definitely worked. @diymanual8 ай бұрын
@@jenniferwilliams2676 you will probably need to do 2 or 3 passes. Make sure to move slowly so you not disturb the dead algaes on the floor or they will get mixed into the water again. When you lift up the container, you want to put it back down to a spot that is already clean then move it slowly onto the spots that you wanted to clean. Also, you can swirl the water around after your next pass creating like a tornado effect. The next day you will see most of the dead algae in one place towards the center. Making it easier to remove the rest.

What length of hose is best for the most suction? Recommendations?
@diymanual8 ай бұрын
any length that will allow you to reach all the area of your pool and place the other end lower than your pool floor. The bigger diameter of the hose the better but it will suck more water out. Just make sure you use a heavy duty hose so that it will hold it shape and not fold or kink. Good luck.

As long as the hose is underwater and no kink in the hose you should be good. Not sure how it would work? What happens to the dirty water? It gets pumped out the other side However, you did mention that if the vacuum stops, you need to put water back in Wouldn't that make a lot of the dead algae return into the pool at the container end? 🤔 Wondering Thanks 😊
@diymanual8 ай бұрын
When the vacuum stops, simply redo the siphoning procedure 2:35. You can't return the dirty water back in as it already went to waste. Thanks for watching.

What do you hook the other end of hose to and on what setting do you use
@diymanual Жыл бұрын
One end goes into a plastic container to suck the dead algae from the pool and the other simply goes to ground. You don't connect it to filter or anything.
@markb8954 Жыл бұрын
Think of the hose as a very long siphon. Just like siphoning dirty water/substrate in an aquarium. Once you get it flowing (from tank to ground) you just move the hose about sucking out any debris.

Do you just have cloudy water or do you have dead algae at the floor of your pool? If you have dust and dead algae at the bottom of the pool you can use this method. If you have cloudy water, you may have an algae bloom or a high PH issue. You can check this list of videos and see which one fits your need. kzbin.info/aero/PL_2zbWlUD8pnBmQEwh16YFeY-h2NW2s4G

Can you do this in a in ground pool? And also can you use a pool vacuum hose?
@diymanual7 ай бұрын
It will if you can place the other end of the hose in a lower ground than your pool floor. It works with gravity so the other end will need to be lower than your pool floor. Or you can use a transfer pump like this. amzn.to/3xqRsfy If you have a vacuum and a paper or DE filter, you can use a flock amzn.to/3L5kzIn to vacuum it. If you have or if you can do a vacuum to waste you can do that also. Hope this help.

Wjy not hook a shop vac to the other end the throw the hose on the groud.? That would make it quicker.
@diymanual Жыл бұрын
You mean just vacuum the water instead of using gravity? For me... 1. Shop Vac will vacuum water faster so you will need to empty out your vacuum multiple times. 2. Priming hose using the return will only take about 30 seconds. Not sure how long will it take to take the vacuum out of the storage, plug it in and set it up then cleaning it up after. 3. Not everyone will have a shop vac. But anyway, I am just sharing the idea and you can use it as is or modify it depending on your need or preference. There is another comment here that says he use similar technique but instead of letting the water go to waste, he uses a pump to transfer the water to a large container then put most of the water back into the pool once the dirt settles to the bottom. Thanks for sharing your idea. Others might find it better in their situation.

Make sure that you get a medium or heavy duty hose or kink free hose. Light duty hose will kink and stop the flow of water.

I been doing this for years but I just cut the end of the hose so it is cut so it lays flat on the bottom but first I take a shop brumb and sweep every thing to the bottom let it settle then all I have to suck up is the deep part it all is in the deep part it only looses a little water because I sweep it to the bottom of the deep part.
@diymanual Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing. The problem with above ground pool is there is no deep part.

I wish I could put a picture of our pool on here we have a 28 foot Doughboy I came up the idea of built in steps it took a little time because we had to do one step at a time the entire outer part is concrete the sand in the middle after the concert dried then the step is covered with strofoam taped with duck tape then the same process for the second step after that dries same thing, then dropped the liner in filled it the water goes over the steps now we have built in steps!

Will it work in an inground pool?
@diymanual5 ай бұрын
I doubt it because it uses gravity to suck water out. Unless you can place the other end lower than the pool floor. Or you can use a transfer pump like this amzn.to/46MeF9d to suck the water out without needing gravity.

Which type of pool cover do you use in order to avoid this problem? Just a large tarp? Or a fitted cover? I’m not sure what to buy.
@diymanual Жыл бұрын
To avoid algae problem you will need to keep the chlorine level above 1 ppm. For the cover, I used a large tarp in this pool. My new pool comes with the fitted black vinyl cover. The difference that I noticed is that the fitted black vinyl cover also serve as a good solar heater because the material and color can absorb the sun better than a tarp.

What if you just hooked up the garden hose to where the pull sucks in the water?
@diymanual Жыл бұрын
You mean, just suction the dead algae to filter instead of letting the water go to waste? Your filter will get clogged easily and it could burn your pump if it builds too much pressure. You don't really want this going into your filter. Now, if you have a filter that lets you filter to waste then that will work but then you will be wasting a lot more water doing it this way as your filter can pump hundreds to thousands of gallon per hour compare to gravity suction.
@mlacher100 Жыл бұрын
@diymanual no I have a few filter I was and clean out. I was just thinking it would be easy to just hook it to the suction side also. Thanks for the reply!

I don't get it help looks like you missed a step or that's exactly what you're doing taking the water out of the pool from the bottom with the algae is that what's going on?

Yes. You vacuum to waste. Larger pool filters have an option to vacuum to waste but it does waste a lot of water. For most above ground pool owner, this is something we can use to clear your above ground pool of dead algae's.

Remove your net on your sweeper and put a regular sock on it. White will help show you what you’re picking up.
@diymanual6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the input. I tried that with my garden hose jet type vacuum with multiple socks but the dead algaes are too small and just shoots back up into the water. You probably get less than 5% and the rest just goes through the the sock. This method does it faster.

How much water are you losing by doing this?
@diymanual5 ай бұрын
This uses very little water compared to using vacuum to waste feature from your sand filter pool. I did not really measure it but I think I use at least 10 gallons on first round and a lot less on the 2nd and 3rd round.
