I love it! "Makin' Chips"! I worked in a production shop for a number of years and "Makin' Chips" was your productive time. Haven't heard that since I retired. 🙂💯

Literally found your video because I could not get over how many turns it was taking to tighten the table's locking handle and I felt like mine was broken. I guess I'll just keep tightening, but it felt unlikely that I was going to be able to squeeze steel together to tighten this enough. 😂
@WoodShopStop Жыл бұрын
Hey Frank, I hope you got it to tighten up. Thanks for watching.

Go in the other side and screw down. I was having the same issue until I went in the other hole and it tightened quick.

I have the 10" model - used off Craigslist but in new condition. I haven't compared drill presses but in my limited opinion, the WEN and others like it are good for hobbyists. I would suggest you don't use a bubble level to check the table level. If your workbench is slightly off level, your table won't be perpendicular to the drill bit. Use a small speed square to check the table against a drill bit in the chuck.
@WoodShopStop Жыл бұрын
Great tip Dan, I am aware of the problems that floor and bench tops not being level can cause I believe I did use a square to make sure that the drill bit was perpendicular to the table because I didn't want my holes going in at an angle. Thanks for watching the the video. Please please feel free to share more tips if you have them you seem to have the technical knowledge that a lot of woodworkers would love to hear about.

Hey, there. I picked this same drill press up but then spent a few weeks building a simple workbench for it. I got to where I was ready to secure the drill press to the workbench surface and noticed the drill press manual does not provide any specs for securing bolt and washer hardware. I was curious if you might post that ~1 year follow-up review you alluded to possibly doing in other comments on the press. Maybe you could go into what you used for hardware securing the press along with where it came to live in your shop. (Did you end up moving it for various reasons, etc.) if you made something like that and linked out to it from this original video I bet it would be helpful to others following your pathway. Anyhow, I’ve watched this video a few times before and during the assembly of this product and was appreciative you took the time to narrate it all and share it here. Thank you and keep up the good work.

Hey Superpolymath, thanks for your comments and watching the video sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but I've been on vacation we were out of town I was just on the go so much I didn't have time to get back to any anyone. But I really appreciate your comments and you watching the video. I'm about to post a video to show you a little update on the 12-in drill press I hope this informs you and others as well. I haven't used that drill press much lately but I plan on getting busy here in the next few months with some projects so I'm looking forward to that and I'm sure the drill press will be ready to respond to the call. Thanks again and have a good one.

I have been looking around for a bench press too and I will go with Wen 4214T. There is another model of 4214 without the T and I believe the one with the T is newer model.

Why is the model without the T priced at $400 Plus and the model with the letter T is priced at $281? Does anyone know? And thank you for a great video.
@jerrykearns63442 жыл бұрын
@@marwanmorcos3970 I just bought the 4214 (no T) direct from WEN for $240 free shipping. The mfg date is apparently 8/21. To complicate things further, there is the Jet JWDP-12 currently selling for $585 which appears to be the same drill press painted white.
@frankhouck44462 жыл бұрын
I bought the 4214T last Christmas for $300 from HD. Now they list the 4214 for $292 and the 4214T for $251. I’m not happy about this. However, I did get to the bottom of the whole “what’s the difference” question: Apparently, Wen added the T when they put new packaging in place. It was a way to “T”rack the effectiveness for QA. The drills are EXACTLY the same. I believe they have since removed the “T” and are continuing with the 4214. Retailers like HD are using this as way to run a promo to get rid of their older inventory.

I must be doing something wrong. I tightened those locking bolts as far as I could, and the table still spins freely, and the table assembly still rotates freely around the main shaft.
@WoodShopStop Жыл бұрын
That sounds like you have some defective bolts with not enough threads or the clamping part is oversized just enough to not tighten up on the shaft like it's supposed to. Sorry to hear this. They owe you a new one I'd say.
@SergeantJackHarris Жыл бұрын
@@WoodShopStop Thanks for replying, and great video! As it turns out, it was operator error; I was threading the bolts through in the wrong direction. I fixed that, and now it works exactly like it should.

Anyone ever drill through 1/4" steel plate?..and how does the Wen perform?
@WoodShopStop Жыл бұрын
It should handle it fine 1/4 in. isn't that thick. Be sure to use a Cobalt material drill or carbide if you have access to it. You want to use short pecking strokes, clearing the chips during the process while using a lubricant, three in one oil will work just to be sure your drill bit doesn't get too hot. Thanks for watching the video good luck.
