How To Assemble, Crimp and Solder MC4 Connector To Make Solar Panel Extension Cable

Important:
This video shows how to attach single MC4 connectors to solar panel extension cable. This cable is to connect short cable from solar panel to controller / charge controller, that's why the polarity of this connectors to the wires is opposite.

Beberapa orang mungkin cukup dengan crimping tool untuk memasang MC4, namun menurut pengalaman kami, memasang dengan disertai penyolderan akan lebih menjamin koneksi listrik stabil dan aman. Hubungan konektor dan kabel juga lebih kuat saat kabel kondisi tegang / tertarik-tarik.

I discussed the art of connections with a man who had many years of experience with electrics in Campers and RVs. He said he had been taught to *always* use *two* methods of making joints i.e. crimping and soldiering. I think your method looks better than just using an 'approved' crimping tool. :)

Just done this myself. It's easy. If I can do it, anyone can. I now have my second solar panel up and charging my new Bluetti. Yay! I used ordinary pliers instead of an expensive crimping tool and it worked perfectly.

He did a good job! But if youre like me in the middle of Norway fitting a new panel with just a plier its possible, fold the one over the other en press down with alot of force, pull and if the stay its okay. Screwing them is also possible you dont need a special tool. Goodluck

Looks bad to me it’s not the solder holding the joint, the terminals mechanical grip is not working, if the solder gets warm and softens then you will have a dry joint

After several failures due to highly corrosive environment I have shifted to soldering wires in mc4 connectors and it works. You could have dipped the wires once in soldering flux instead of soiling your fingers Repeatedly 😂

You solder after crimping. You have probably also contaminated the joint with your finger in the flux. By soldering, youa re effectively making a weak spot in your connection

They will connect as anything else. But it's probably one of the worst possible choices for a motorbike! Huge and cumbersome as they can be! Would not be in any decent choice list of connections! That's for sure. ;-)

its for extension, so you need + to connect with - from panel, and you need - to connect + from the panel

Plumbers Flux?, Razor blade instead of strippers?, what kind of wire is that??. sorry buddy good effort on the vid but this is not the way to go about this. i would fail a QAQC check and not to mention the added labor involved in this process. people please remember you only maintain the UL listing if its installed per manufactures specifications. So what's the takeaway lesson here... your only as good as the tools you own.

Very interesting. I’m not sure how necessary this might be. I never had a crimped connection fail or draw excessive amps from a poor connection, but this was interesting none the less.

That looks like plumbers flux. It is very corrosive and not recommended for electrical work.
