REI bicycle techs do an excellent job adjusting the derailleurs and truing the wheels. Once you've installed the handlebars, pedals, and front wheel, you are ready to roll.

You may want to make a video showing initial brake set up, with adjustments for rim and disc brakes. Also a video detailing derailleur adjustments (i.e. high/low limit screws, cable tension, etc.). This could be confusing and could cause problems for people, but could also alleviate some frustration too.
@TomZ234 жыл бұрын
Those should have been adjusted before the bike is put into the box. But, if something does go out of adjustment during shipping, first contact REI at the email mentioned at the end of the video. One thing I always tell people to do with non-thru axle bikes is to put the wheel in place and do the final tightening of the quick-release or axle nuts with the wheels on the ground. This will seat the wheel fully into the fork.

What about having to do adjustments? Should the derailleur need any adjustments on a new bike? Also, in the beginning you mentioned something about needing a tool for front shock absorbers?

very helpful, however it would be nice if the video mentioned earlier on, like when installing the handlebars, to NOT pull the brake handles on the handlebars before installing the front wheel if you have disc brakes. My bike did not come with a plastic pad between the brake pads to protect this from happening, and I made that mistake while putting the handlebars on and got the pistons stuck so I wasn't able to put the front wheel on because the rotor wouldn't fit in between the brake pads, so I had to take the brake pads out and mess with it for an extra 45 minutes to get the pistons back out so I could put the front wheel in. I tried to follow this video to fix it kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqiqfnegprOcm8k but it was a different kind of piston than on my REI bike, so it was not an easy fix at all.

bleed brakes tutorial
@zxdfty774 жыл бұрын
Any time you have spankin' new brake rotors and pads -- such as your new bike -- it requires an initial "break in" period, also known as "BEDDING the BRAKES". This is a controlled process of riding and slowing (about 10-15 times @ first with the front, then rear). Each time you do it, particles of the new brake pads become embedded into minute pores of the fresh rotor surface. This creates a safe and effective gripping surface without overheating or glazing the surface of your pads and rotors, and this will make a very helpful and lasting difference to your stopping power and modulation throughout the life of this set of pads and rotors. (This bedding process is also necessary after changing only new pads or new rotors.) Here is a link to Park Tools' video: Bedding In a Disc Brake - Tech Tuesday #106 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIi0qXqwfbaNjLc The first time I changed my brake rotors and pads, I didn't know this process was required. I waas afraid maybe there was something terribly wrong with my hydraulic brake system because it took several weeks to get rid of the "squishy" brakes. Now I always take the time to intentionally "bed the brakes" like this, and it makes a huge difference! Also, with a brand new bike -- I REALLY do NOT recommend bleeding your brakes, as this would have already been done at the factory...and if that actually were necessary, you should contact the shop where you purchased your bike, so they can help you get started right. Happy riding!

@@sfafsashfdh6589After years of fixing cars and bikes and people, I realised that whenever troubleshooting a problem...always start with the simplest corrections first and methodically progress deeper from there. It'll save time, money, hassles...and avoid the embarrassment of overlooking something really easy. (...like - did you follow directions or turn it on, etc?) So with this guy's new brake system -- the FIRST EASIEST thing to do is BED the BRAKES.
