I'm in Sweden and nights have been very cold here. Mid to upper 30ies F. This has caused my veggie garden to be very late, as I have not planted most of my crops and just started my seedlings since I have a litter of rambunctious 9 week old kittens that, are just being kittens and I haven't been able to have my starters on the tops of my counters that I usually have. Adult cats know not to mess with my starts but... Anyhow, I have had to wait and have now planted my seeds/starters on my roofed in veranda. Even if it is cold outside at night, it's not as cold on my veranda and I have put covers on the seedlings. I did buy 6 tomato plants from the store which I did plant directly in my garden along with 6 chili plants. They've taken a beating due to the cold nights but, they're all still living, even if some have a lot of damage on the leaves. I did watch your video in regard to cold damage and what those leaves look like and not to worry to much as long as you can see that the new growth is green/healthy. Which they are. When it comes to watering. When the nights were very cold, I would only water early in the mornings when I knew that the temps were going up, as not to risk their roots getting to cold. Now ALL OF A SUDDEN things have warmed up here in the last week to near 90F during the days and about 60 nighttime. So, I've changed my watering schedule to watering/soaking late in the evenings or, should I keep watering early mornings??? I can't get hold of fish emulsion over here. I buy raw fish scraps from our fish truck in town and have a huge bucket which I put the scraps in and fill with water. Smells like death itself but, the plants seem to like when I water using that water. Is that enough fertilizer type for the tomatoes, cucumbers, squash etc.? I also water with a diluted solution of regular full fat milk 10% and 90% water, which I both water some of it with and also spray the leaves with a coating a few times per season. I had a ton of tomatoes last year but, like everyone else over here, only green tomatoes. Summer was way to cold. They were way to green to even think about putting them in trays to ripen inside so, instead of wasting them, I made/canned green tomato/spaghetti sauce instead! I'm hoping I at least get a few red/ripe tomatoes this year but, since the season started so late, I'm not sure when I do get my seedlings out into the garden that they'll have enough time. Perhaps I should buy a few more store bought big transplants instead... Hmm... I'll see what I do.

You can change your watering schedule and may not have to do it as often when the plants are small. The rotted fish is probably pretty good. Can you burry fish down in the garden beds. Deep enough so animals dont dig them up. That was a pretty standard method for Native Americans. The milk can help with fungus. If you method is working, I wouldnt change it. I'm having well issues. So... I use plastic jugs buried in the garden by the plants to slow water THEM, bc I do NOT have water to cover the garden. So... I direct water with the plastic jugs of all sizes. Add 1 maybe 2 small holes in bottom or low side of jug and place in planting hole next to plant. I also do this when planting SEEDs.

It has and I remove broken stems and that is when a use a water soluble chemical type fertilizer. They are pack with more nitrogen and everything your plant needs to recover. When I water my containers the water leaks out very quickly so wondering if I should put vermiculite or perlite? I do top dress with compost and cover with straw. I have the same issue with couple of my raised also

Top dress and mulch is good in these larger fabric pots. Digging a hole in the middle to water helps too. You want a more porous mix so water does get in, though very often it washes outside normally. It’s been about 3 weeks since I planted and fertilized all my tomato’s and peppers. However we’ve had a ton of water, 4-6 inches actually since I put them out. I added new bone meal and fertilizer 5-8-4 to just about everything yesterday, but I’m not sure if I should go ahead and add the water soluble fertilizer while the plants are still wet? We’re expecting more rain, and I’ve tried to keep my containers from overwatering, but in ground everything is washed out. My soil is mixed with clay. Should I feed with water soluble now, and how often should I apply long term fertilizer. Thanks so much! I enjoy all of your videos and advice! Ps I’m in zone 5b

Thanks...I dont use it. It does work but works more when you dont have ample potassium and phosphorous present. And most of our soil does. And do you already have plenty of blossom on peppers etc? I am having a terrible time with watering! I have bought several different bags of "quality" compost and even had a load delivered! I have been having to work the water in with my hands because the water does not go into the soil on its own. I will stand there and water for several minutes, scratch the surface and find it is bone dry! My garden is large so it takes me almost an hour to get everything good and watered. I am sooo frustrated and ready to quit, cause I have been working so hard to have some success. Any suggestions?

Over time it will get better but I would buy a long soaker hose and run it along the beds. 1 section at a time or how you wish. I’ve been deep watering my tomatoes plants and recently noticed what I think are flea gnats. Would this be caused from too much water?

It could be but most likely not. You can let the surface of the soil dry a bit. You have flea beetles and fungus gnats. I am not sure if you meant one of them. Flea Beetles show up and insect dust works best. Outdoor fungus gnats appear but seem to disappear pretty quickly. For them, let the so surface dry out a couple days.

I have two cucumber plants next to each other and after a heavy rain, one of them started turning yellow. The leaves are all dying on that plant, at the bottom, but progressively less dead as they go up. What do I do?

Mr. Gary, and anyone that might know. Is it helpful or even possible to disolve a few probiotic pills in a few gallons of water and use while watering to help establish a good ( healthy) bacteria in the soil? I have all my plants in pots so incurr more leaching than inground. Any info and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Honestly, there is plenty of soil if in your soil. Give it compost, mulch and keep it moist and the bacteria flourish. However, you can and probiotic and soil bacteria to water and water in your garden. They have to be microbes that typically live in soil. Thanks...
